Curious Dogs after Dark and Jamie Fraser hits the Small Screen!
26 March 2015

Jamie Fraser - Outlander - on Prime Jamie Fraser - Outlander - on Prime

Book of the Week this week is The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time  by Mark Haddon and well-deserved it is too. It's an award winner, and has spawned an award winning play, adapted by Simon Stephens and directed by Marianne Elliott. The production won 7 Olivier Awards including Best Play in 2013. See it if you can, at the Gielgud if you like unusual theatre, and go here if you want to read my theatre review on my QVC blog just out.

But the book earns this week's Book of the Week slot, not that I've read it, but based on the outstanding play. Go here to get it on Amazon. It has over 1000 5* reviews too - really highly rated. See what you think. It's bound to be a film at some stage too, I reckon! Or an adaptation for the small screen!

Outlander on amazon - finally!

Talking of TV adaptations, Jamie Fraser in the form of Sam Heughan hits our web screens this week (Thursday 26th) as Outlander finally becomes available via Amazon Prime. All eight of the first series' shows will be available to binge-watch this fiery Highlander as he meets time-traveller Clare from the 1940s, when she passes through a circle of stones to arrive in the 1700s. I have loved each of the epic books, the latest one I'm on is Book 6, 'A Breath of Snow and Ashes' which is over fifty seven HOURS long. yes, fifty seven. Can't wait to watch it - and do let me know if you've enjoyed it too!

Meeting Diana

Also my writing group pal, dear friend Litty came with me to see Diana Gabaldon the author, talk at the Oxford Literary Festival on Sunday and get a signed book after. I do like collecting signed books from my fave authors and from fellow writing colleagues and friends. It was a funny chat - she says if you want to be a successful writer -

1. Read

2. Write

3. Don't Stop.

She wrote her first epic - I mean epic - novel when she was holding down two full time jobs and had children aged 6, 5 and 3. So don't give me excuses about not having time, she says - make time to write. And get it done. Speaks volumes as to why this lady is a number 1 New york Times Bestseller and award winner. I love the narration too, as I've said before - this series has taken many of my 'Book of the Week' slots over the past eighteen months since I first started reading/listening. Thoroughly recommended.
