12 March 2015

Take a Chance on Me - with Choc Lit Take a Chance on Me - with Choc Lit

It’s another big First for me! At last the Choc Lit version of my first ever novel, and my first ever novel to be published by a ‘proper’ publisher, is out on Amazon. Click here to see it.

The new title is ‘Take a Chance on Me’ and this is the new eBook cover, specially designed to reflect that it’s their first ‘Hot Choc Lit’ cover and with a nod to the FSOG trend of ahem, ‘greys’! But I love the red, and I love the overall classy look. That’s what most of the feedback has been and it makes my heart smile!

The book is still much the same story – it was originally called Hawaiian Affair and was self-published to Amazon in June 2013, hence the 100 or so five star reviews already. Sadie and Mac have an ‘accidental’ encounter in exotic Monaco. But will business woman Sadie be able to resist ignoring her man ban to take Mac up on his offer..? click the link to get the eBook – on preorder for release on 14th.

Innovative independent publisher Choc Lit decided to ‘Take a Chance on Me’ (sorry, couldn’t resist it) last Summer and I’ve been proudly working towards re-editing with the help of their professional team. If you re-read it, let me know what you think of the tweaks – it’s not changed hugely – but there are a few subtle nips and tucks and an overall streamlining of the sub plots. And if you haven’t yet added a review, do feel free! The paperback should be out later in the year.

Take a Chance on Me (Choc Lit) is available to pre-order for release on 14th March for your kindle or kindle app. Click here to get it. Enjoy!

Freebie Friday - Diary of a Wannabe

To mark the occasion of my first ever release with Choc Lit, I’m giving you another reason to go take a look at Take a Chance – you’ll also be able to pick up a free eBook copy of my stand alone one-off, Diary of a Wannabe Shopping Channel Presenter. It’s the story of twenty-something trainee journalist Abigail, who enters a Search for a Selly Telly star contest and what happens when the audition goes terribly wrong, and the guy who may be her salvation or her nemesis, but which? It’s a fun romp, written in a journal style, like Bridget Jones Diary meets Alan Partridge meets Eddie Murphy in Holy Man! Go get your free copy between Friday 13th and Tuesday 17th here.

Julie Cohen’s Workshop in France in June

Possibly the best move you could ever make for your novel writing career.

Fancy writing a novel? Need help getting one right? My own work has been greatly helped by the lovely Julie Cohen and I'm thrilled she's got a course coming up in the summer. Do share, author pals!

It'd be great if three more people, writer-types, can come with me, and Jan Sprenger, to Chez Castillon for tutellage by the ever excellent effervescent, award-winning Julie Cohen in June - In France!! Not been? this enticed me - read the blog below about how beautiful it is there - and just think, all that word count, all that peace and quiet! £895 june 6-12 (plus flight - i have tons of air miles so that's cool - to Burgundy or Bordeaux airports.). Want to come? I'll post the link below. NB No i'm not on commission, just helping to get the minimum requirement booked up early as poss! Whoop! x

From author Fiona Field - imagine if this was you...

"...The silence that fell over the house was profound.  Not a sound apart from the swooping and shrieking of the ever-present swifts outside the tall Georgian windows,  or the cooing of pigeons perched on the walls around the tranquil garden.  The front of the house might be in the middle of Castillon but the back garden was the most tranquil of places.

...when I wasn’t working I was either eating the most sensationally delicious food, prepared by the hosts Janie and Mickey, or I was sobbing with laughter.  Or, and I know this is hard to believe, I was drinking a very occasional glass of red wine.

...After an early morning swim for the more intrepid, followed by cups of tea and then breakfast for everyone with croissants or  French bread and a dozen other goodies, all of us would retire to our rooms, or the lovely garden, or the library and… work.

At about twelve-ish or so, one-by-one we’d drift into the kitchen to see what treats would be in store for lunch, maybe have a small glass of something (well, it would be churlish not to) and swap word counts.  Lunch, like all meals was a raucous, garrulous affair punctuated by so much laughter we would be weak with giggles by the end.  And then we’d go back to our rooms and work some more.  By the end of the day, some of those word counts would be truly impressive.  I would aim for two thousand a day and would be happy with that but others would be achieving double or even treble what I did.

The thing is though, when all you have to do is think about your writing – no phones, no kids, no shopping-washing-cooking-cleaning-housework rubbish – you can focus.

And that’s what Castillon gives you; the opportunity to be truly selfish and get immersed in your book and say ‘nuts’ to the real world.  Chez Castillon isn’t the real world – it’s a writer’s paradise.

And then, every evening, fantastic chat about the day’s achievements or unexpected plot-holes or problem characters with people who understood and empathised and who offered constructive advice or criticism.

I had a ball, that first trip.  I’ve been back several times since and it’s always wonderful, always inspiring and always worth it – every penny."

Sounds great, right?! Here's the course write up - it's for any writer,  it seems.

You know your story—but how well? Do you know the depths of your characters? The theme of your novel? The potential of your setting? The structure of your plot?

This is a course for writers of all levels, who have started their novels, and who want to understand not only what happens in their book, but why — and how you can use that understanding to bring your writing to the next level. There will be guided exercises, time to write, and one-on-one time with Julie to brainstorm and dig deeper into your story.
