Home news blog –

Come to our concert – Songs from Shows – with Barry Parsons and me singing to help raise funds for the village church roof. It’s in Sheepwash on August 22nd – a Wednesday eve at 7pm. Refreshments are at our place in the interval in return for a donation. It’ll be lovely to have a good sing song and song sheets will be handed out too! Email us on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for tickets, get them in the village shop or pay on the night at St Lawrence’s church, Sheepwash.

We were asked to do it after our concert in Torrington last September, by Rod Bridges, the lovely guy who runs the church and we are only too glad to help! Songs will include ‘Bring him Home’, ‘Some Enchanted Evening’,  and others like ‘That Old Devil Love’ – my standard! I do hope we get lots of people along – it’s only £7 per ticket – do pass this message on to anyone who lives down there, it’d be great to see them on the night!

It certainly is a picturesque little village, for sure. and so peaceful. Go here to listen to a vlog I did strolling through the country lanes nearby our lovely retreat in Sheepwash - very unusual! And do 'like' the fbk page if you would like updates ongoing! Other social media is below. I'm doing ever more on instagram nowadays too.

Author writes 25000 words in 4 days at RFY! How proud am I – great write up by Nikki Moore about our writing retreat, author of the ‘Love London’ series of novels. She’s written some awesome books herself and I’m looking forward to her next one being sent to us so we can add it to the shelves of former guests’ books in our dining room! Go here to read what she said about it.

STOP PRESS! We have one more place for Monday 13-17 retreat week in Devon if you're able to come? It's a yoga week - how fab if you've been sitting all day and want a daily stretch session - it's included in the cost, as is full board and wine at dinner and all snacks and hot drinks - just £102.50 pppn. email us This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.!

Book of the week Kate Riordan’s period drama, The Stranger – a super summer romantic suspense – go here to read more and find out about writing for therapy if you need help with your emotions it could help.

This week’s QVC blog has a fab competition to win a silver Taxco Designs necklace, worth over £100,  and all about when I went to see an old colleague in theatre in Devon – can you guess which colleague?! It’ll be out on QComm page on Friday.

The play he was in was ‘Gaslight’ – the famous 1930s drama which gave rise to the expression ‘gaslighting’ meaning playing with someone’s mind to make them think they’re going mad, like the bullying character in the play. It’s connected with emotional bullying and narcissistic psychopathic behaviour – worth reading up on if you’re living with a nutcase drama king or queen. Don’t forget I also wrote all about it last year after meeting someone who was being bullied– there are four parts in total and another maybe on its way soon. Scary stuff but you’re not alone and it helps to find out how to deal with them – tons of links on my blogs and I’m so glad it’s helping so many people who thought they were stuck in these awful relationships. Part one has been read more than 11,500 times now so do pass it on to someone you think may be interested. Here’s the full round up on the latest blog about it click here to see ‘How to spot Gaslighting and emotional bullies – the Narcissistic Psychopath exposed.’

It feels good to help people with stuff like this. If you know anyone who fancies coming down to stay at RFY for just a normal retreat or is being bullied and just wants to get away from it all, I’m more than happy to spend some time chatting about it all with them, just ask them to email us for booking info This email address is being protected from spambots. It all went really well, when, on September 16th at a concert at The Plough Arts Centre, Torrington, Devon, the Eric Gilchrist Jazz Trio and I raised over £1000 for Medical Detection Dogs - what a wonderful way to have fun and also to raise money. We were joined by local dignitary and celeb Barry 'the Singing Councillor' Parsons who sang songs from the musicals too, and he was fab. Thanks to Sheena Ryder co-organiser too for her stellar work including with the raffle on the night. I loved having my daughter Lauren there also, with her new hubby Nick - they came for a break and it was my pleasure to look after her and the band as guests at Retreats for You my writing retreat/guest house - including making full cooked breakfast and homemade bread as I normally would for my regular guests. But the band performed for free and the venue just took a contribution towards their fundraising too and all in all it was a great night. (I'm glad it's over now though I must admit - 'cos I'm knackered!! lol.) Plus we had the tea rooms event the day after ... thanks to everyone who came along.

Go here to watch the live Facebook video of the rehearsal - basically all of the first half of my performances.

Go here to watch the videos of the performances - i can dream can't I? - and a little bit of My Baby Just Cares for Me ! lol.

Plus we did Cheek to Cheek and You can always Count on Me and I only have eyes for you. And a duet - kind of - Something Stupid.

Go here to read the local press review afterwards - Crediton Chronicle

Go here to  read more about MDD.

The next big event for MDD will be in November, when I attend the big Leeds Castle fundraising dinner.

We also then had a tea rooms event again at my place on the Sunday - it's all go! It was the best-attended, yet - with a total of over £1000 raised for Medical Detection Dogs.

Go here to see a short video - we were packed!

Thanks to everyone who came and made it possible to raise so much again, over such a short space of time.

Very grateful

So are Medical Detection Dogs!

Hi! Had theeeee most amazing rehearsals this week for the upcoming concert - was singing with a pianist and with a saxophonist in a front room in Chiswick! Very exciting! We reharsed things like -

Beyond the Sea

My Baby Just Cares for Me

I Can Dream Can't I

and You Can Always Count on Me from my fave musical City of Angels

In the next couple of weeks I will post a video from the final rehearsal. Also met up with Barry Parsons, the 'singing councillor' who sings at events in Devon, but was part of a group who toured round the West End and sings show songs. He's very good. He sang things including 'Bring Him Home' to the girls at the current retreat (hello Jackie and co!) and they were teary eyed afterwards! Jackie said she took quite a shine to him too - and she's 85! Looks like it's going to be a great show. THe jazz band are amazing too. Do forward this to anyone who is down there who might want to come? Tickets are just £16 and it's for the Medical Detection Dogs!

(go here to book your tickets on Saturday September 16th at 8pm in Devon and make a weekend of it - come to the Retreats for You vintage tea rooms event the next afternoon too)
