Debbie Flint

In the week in which I went to the Vintage fair in Guildford and managed to get into a size 12 1950’s style dress and petticoat, (squeeee!) we also hit 2000 members on the fab 'Back to You QVC' supportive Facebook group (double squeeee!)

And Bruce and I launched the Trim and Tone 3 month Supersix challenge. It has officially begun! Are you in it?

How to Join In

Just go to the bottom of this page to the separate blog all about the new challenge – it’s going to be very exciting! Basically come register your name and join in the people making a massive difference to create new habits – permahabits – which will set them up for a healthy life ahead. Using the supersix from Bodyblade and the supersix principles of Freedom eating, loads of people are changing their own lives incredibly easily, and pleasurably too!

Here’s one example - this is from Nicki –

“Hi everyone thank you for letting me join. I wanted to post my story so far. I wanted to thank Debbie Flint for being such an inspiration I have been freedom eating, walking and of course using the Bodyblade for just over a month now and I have lost weight and just feel healthier. Today I was able to get into a pair of jeans I haven't been able to fit in for over 2 years! The buzz that has given me is amazing definitely motivated to carry on only another 1 and half stones to go. I have had a rough year but this is also working wonders for my confidence. I am working towards being able to look in the mirror and like what's looking back at me as I haven't done that in over 15 years. Xx”

This is from Sandra –

“Another week gone. As I am regaining my confidence to go out. My hubby and I went out for a meal. Feeling great having dropped 2 dress sizes. Xx”

To join in, as described at the bottom of this blog, you just need to eat like a slim person as in TTFLS, and do some Bodyblading or other exercise to kick it all off. You can buy the Bodyblade on waitlist here and you can get my Till the Fat Lady Slims 2.0 – the ‘When’ Diet here.

But do read the whole Q&A below – right at the bottom of this blog. Then email me the info as requested to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. It’ll be great to have you on board!

PATRICK HOY Monday 20th 8-9pm Quacker Fashions

Back to you members please welcome our super fabulous, super friendly guest Patrick Hoy - Quacker Factory!

Q -
Hi Patrick my Mum loves you and your range. How do you keep so happy?

A - Thank you Georgina - I'm so glad to hear that you're mother is a fan of Quacker Factory!!!!! My own mother says I came out of the womb laughing - I was definitely a happy baby - and that's stayed with me since then!!

Q - Hi Patrick welcome to the UK. I have a few quacker tops and they wash and wear so well. They look as good today as the day I purchased them. I have also had jeans which have been a great fit. Love to watch you on the Q. How did you get involved with Quacker. X
Just liked your page
When can we have the little quacker shirts for our Christmas Tree. .... Please

A - Hello Sue Stewart - that really makes me happy that your tops have been easy to care for. Almost everything we make is either hand washable or able to be put in the machine on a gentle cycle. We have Quackers in the States who still have original pieces of theirs that they bought on our first ever show on Feb 4, 1995!!!Thank you Sue Stewart - I'll be having those ornament sweaters in my show this Tuesday at 14:00! Aren't they ADORABLE?!!?!? Patrick Hoy
Sue Stewart - the sweater ornaments that I'll be showing on Wednesday are item number
Not only are they great on a Christmas tree - but you can use them to as ribbon ties on special gift packages. Sue Stewart - I got involved with this wonderful brand of Quacker Factory back in 2006. Jeanne Bice, who started the brand and was actually discovered by QVC USA in 1995 used to do cruises every two years when she was alive - and boy, where they FUN, FUN, FUN!!! My best friend in the States was a good friend of Jeanne's and he put the cruises together for her. In 2006 he called me and asked me if I would go on the cruise and help him since there were over 1,000 QVC viewers going on the cruise. It was then that I met Jeanne Bice - and we became great friends - and she told me she wanted me to work with her and the brand - and voila - here I am!!!

Q - Hello Patrick x I really would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all the hard work you do. Your such a loving and jolly person  My question would be you always look very well groomed what are your top Beauty products ? Xx

A - Awe, thank you Dawn Robinson - that is SO kind of you to say!!!! Okay, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Alpha H Micro Cleanse - it's my go-to exfoliante - I use it 3 times religiously a week. I also use Dr. Perricone face wash daily. And I have American Irish skin - so that means I use LOTS of sun protection!!!!  I forgot to tell you - I am a BIG fan of Wen hair products - I've been using it exclusively for over a year now - and I LOVE it!!!!!!! My hair has never been healthier since I started using it. I know it's a little more expensive - but wow - the results are amazing - so I'm now a loyal customer to the Wen brand. I even got to meet Chaz a few times at QVC USA - and his BEAUTIFUL dogs - what a super nice and sweet and REAL guy he is!

Q - Hi Patrick. Hope you are OK! Would love to buy some jeans with embellishment at the bottom but as they are too long for me I can't shorten them. Any chance of getting some in approx a 28" length. XXX

A - Glenys Phillips - I am actually working on that issue with our wonderful Buying team here at QVC UK. We make a 'short' length in our Dream Jeannes in the States - and I'm working on getting some of them over here for all of you. So watch this space! One suggestion is to try the boot cuts - because you can wear them with heels or some nice 'chunky' boots - that's what my mother does. She's a big fan of all our Dream Jeannes! xxx

Q - What do you like to do to relax between your very busy lifestyle x

A - Dawn Robinson - when I'm not on air in the US or Italy or here - I LOVE travelling!!!!! I particularly love to go on cruises - they really are the easiest kind of vacation to take in my opinion. I also LOVE going to the theatre - and we're so blessed to have some great shows here in London. I also enjoy cooking - and I LOVE being with good friends

Q - Dianne Murphy
Hello Patrick, where do all the inspirations for the range come from?

A - Dianne Murphy - I work with the most AMAZING and talented Design Team you could ever want to work with. The head of the team is Susan and she has worked with Jeanne since the very beginning. She and her team are incredibly gifted - and so darn creative. I think the main thing they are inspired by is HAPPINESS!!! Seriously! The label on all of our clothes says 'Wear it with a smile' - and that's what inspires Susan and her team every day. Their goal is to design 'Happy Clothes' that when you put them on you not long look great - but you FEEL great as well! How great a job do they have to get to make happy clothes every single day?!?!?

Q - Hello Patrick...I adore the Quacker denim-look leggings that you had in the black and the indigo and which had different crystal wave patterns and crystals at the bottom of the legs going upwards - I have worn and washed them a hundred times and they are still like new... is there any chance of getting these again in different colours and also just plain at the bottom? Thank you!x

A - Sharon Salmon - you've just made me smile - I'm SO glad that you have washed and washed your Dream Jeannes and they are STILL looking Quack-Tabulous!!!  You know I always say that on air - so it's great to hear you confirm that. They really are our 'hero' product - and I tell viewers that if you have never tried the DreamJeannes, you really should. Jeanne Bice, who started Quacker Factory was a size 3XL - so she REALLY understood how to design clothes for REAL women with REAL bodies with beautiful curves and shapes - so when she discovered the DreamJeanne fabric, it really took the market and QVC by storm!! They are like chips - once you have one, you can't stop!!!!  Stay tuned this week - I have some NEW moderated boot cut DreamJeannes that we've called the Denim & Diamond collection - they have got some wonderful bling!!!! I'll have them on this week in my Mini-Series!

Q - I often see you in photos with your beautiful parents, Do they ever give you some suggestions on what they would also like to see in quacker range xx

A - Patrick Hoy
Dawn Robinson - thank you - I'm sooooo very close to my parents - I absolutely adore them - they are wonderful. I'll be honest with you - my mother had never watched QVC or had shopped on QVC until I started presenting on it - and now she can't stop watching - my father always says 'What did you do to my wife?!?!?' She LOVES the DreamJeannes - and that was her first ever QVC AND Quacker purchase - and she is always wanting us to design more and more styles!!!!  Here's a picture of her I took this last month - I had her do some modelling with us for a new feature I'm rolling out in the States in a week. Can you believe that she is 74 years young?!?!? She's wearing one of my favourite Quacker tops - that I'll be bringing back here to the UK this Autumn and Winter.

Q - Hi Patrick - I love following your travels on FB .. I'm sure you never sit still, but it's lovely to see your smiling face everywhere!

A - Thank you Susan Farrell - I really do love travelling - which is probably a great thing since I do so much of it for QVC

Q - Patrick how many "Quacker" whistles do you own? Quack Quack..... i bet your suitcase is full of them~! We love them!!!

A - Ha - it is Sharon Harvey!!!!! I actually ALWAYS carry one with me because I get stopped on the street or the Tube or in airports by people who recognise me - and they always ask for a Quacker Whistle - so I have one with me at all times!

Q - Hi Patrick, looking forward to the Christmas items you will be bringing. Love them and thanks

A - Thank you Susan Dyer - I'm VERY excited about this weeks mini-series - because Wednesday is devoted to Christmas and holiday items - so get ready for some FUN items!!!! I'm going to be wearing a Christmas jumper as well!!!!  And tomorrow I've got the most adorable new Doggie Christmas cardigan that I just know that every dog lover is going to LOVE!!!

Q - Oh how fantastic! It wouldn't be Christmas without Quacker Factory

A - I agree Sharon! Jeanne used to LOVE doing Christmas jumpers - and that's what we were really known for in the USA when we first started. In fact, my aunt first was introduced to Quacker Factory because she was looking for a fun Christmas jumper to wear to a party - and someone told her to turn on QVC and watch Quacker Factory. She bought a sweater over 15 years ago - and she's been Quacking ever since!!

Q - What is a "Qvc day in the life of Patrick Hoy like? "

A - That's a GREAT question Sharon! I always get to the studios at least 2 1/2 hours before my show - I like to have plenty of time. When I get there, the first thing I do is put on my makeup (Bare Essentials matte finish medium!) and then I make sure my clothes are ironed and looking sharp. I then go to the area that they have our items all hanging and I go through everything with a fine tooth comb to make sure it's all looking fantastic. I then meet with the Presenter and make sure they are comfortable with everything in the hour. I've worked with almost all of them now - so we really all know each other very well. I LOVE the Presenters at QVC - and I'm not just saying that - they really are incredible people - and I don't know HOW they keep everything straight considering how many different brands and products they have to learn - I have a lot of respect for them. And yes, yes, yes - they really ARE as nice as they are on air!!!

Q - Susan Dyer
Thanks Patrick for your answer. I get very HOT all year around, so please have you any cotton Christmas t-shirts with short sleeves or 3/4 sleeves. I just can't wear Christmas jumpers or jumpers of any sort, bug can do cardigans, with a t-shirt underneath, so can take cardigan off if I get too hot. Sorry, my body just has not got a working thermostat - been like it since I was aged 11 years old, but love to fun dress up with Christmas things, but just can't do jumpers or hot fabrics. Thanks x

A - GREAT point Susan Dyer - and guess what?!?!? This week I have a new jacket and SHORT Sleeve shirt to go with it!!!!! I think it's on Wednesday or Thursday - so be on the lookout. I think the option our Buyer chose over here is with adorable kittiesPlus Susan Dyer - MOST of our items are 3/4 sleeves - Jeanne Bice used to say that she got too hot as well in long sleeves - but she wanted to make sure she covered up her 'bingo wings' - so that's why she LOVED designing tops with 3/4 sleeves. She really was a delight - and soooo funny! You would have LOVED watching her on QVC!!!

Thank you ! I really DO love what I do - I think it's the best 'job' in the world. Who wouldn't love to wake up every morning and know that you're main purpose was to ensure that others around you are happy?!??! At Quacker, we believe that EVERY woman wants to sparkle and shine - that's why we make sure to put a little bit of sparkle and shine in each of our items. We not only want to ensure you LOOK great when you get dressed - but that you FEEL great as well!
Patrick Hoy
Quack, Quack Everyone - and thank you all SO much!!!!!!!!!!!
The Quacker visit is on QVC over the next few days – please check the TV guide on the home page!

BACK TO YOU WEBCHAT - Monday 20th 6-7pm

Bruce Bodyblade and Debbie Flint, launching the 3 month Trim and Tone Challenge

Incorporating - the Monday essay - Bruce on Stretching.

I want to invite you to join us on a new 'TRIM AND TONE SUPERSIX THREE MONTH CHALLENGE'
- a combination of the fundamental basic principles from Bodyblade combined with my Till the Fat Lady Slims 2.0 - the 'When' Diet book’s Freedom Eating principles (TTFLS) which I have also made into a Supersix.

I have got lots of names of people already who wanted to join in and have kindly emailed me their info to my email address - I will post it all again below.

Basically everyone who wants to register an interest, I’d love to know about you - tell me about yourself, your history re dieting and weight loss, describe yourself (weight, age, height, issues, health, family, work situation) - anything relevant to affecting your weight loss journey

So write it out and email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Plus please take a before picture as the idea is that in three months - mid January, when Bruce is back over for his next Bodyblade visit, and the new January series of Back to You has begun on QVC, we will have lots of people who have seriously paid attention to their health for the last three months and who are able to shout from the rooftops about it!

Freedom Eating The thing is, with freedom eating as described in TTFLS, it can combine with any traditional 'dieting' plan – ANY!

And it can help you make it through Xmas, food-wise, in a way you've never done before. Especially if you usually panic and eat for England, put on loads of weight over yuletide and hate yourself afterwards. If anyone's reading this who knows what I mean, do join in! Those who have been using my Freedom Eating method from either TTFLS book - 1 or 2 - talk about escaping food prison. Therefore if you can straddle Xmas with this three month challenge, you may find it changes everything.

So - that's the 'diet' part - the 'trim' part - Bruce is going to explain for newcomers, why the 'tone' part works so well with the Bodyblade in order to get into the habit of doing SOMETHING exercise-wise, every day. I would call it creating 'permahabits.'

PERMAHABITS are permanent habits - ones that you do for the rest of your life, ones that work for you and serve you well, rather than the bad habits that we all do when we're not successfully losing weight, and hating ourselves and life in general! We'‪ve all been there! lol!

So if you want to take part, please say so here, and email me on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Tomorrow I will set you up on the Facebook page (not the group, the PAGE ) called Till the Fat Lady Slims - a page is something anyone can see, anyone can join, and can act as a base for this challenge.
Bruce and I will put inspirational info on there regularly and we expect regular updates and feedback from those taking part who are having great results. Is that a deal?!

The page is here - https://www.facebook.com/?ref=tn_tnmn#!/pages/Till-the-Fat-Lady-Slims-20-the-When-diet/848505488506787

All you need to do is to 'like' the page then you'll see the updates come up, and you'll find them amongst your 'pages' on your Facebook account or app

So far, as listed on the TTFLS page above, the following people have emailed me - (there are others to be added by tomorrow who emailed more recently) - Chris calvert, Heidi Moss (pic), christine Russell (pic), Sue Stewart (pic), kirsty chalmers , jane slade (pic), marion rose, lorna deans (pic), tracy christer (pic), sue pegg (pic), theresa wheldon (pic), lorna (pic), janette mitchell (?), jayne barron-hill and many more I have yet to add. Do confirm if you are listed that you're ready and willing and able and are game to take part!!!

Unless you choose to post them, any personal details you email me will not need to be shared, just your willingness to commit to the three month challenge and your determination to succeed this time, where nothing else has worked?

So here are the basic principles of Freedom eating - I call them, the supersix¬!

1.wait till you're hungry enough - 6 on the hunger scale

2. listen to your body and be accurate in what you choose - this is a biggie and there are tons of tips on how to do it properly in the book. NB if you really feel like ginger cake and a cup of tea, instead of lunch, that's fine, but just do it within these principles. Most of the time once a food is no longer 'treasure' because anything is possible, you stop craving it, and choose healthier options and 'real food' but note the rest of the principles. below to see why it works

3.pay FULL attention to your food - do nothing else whilst eating

4. the most important of all - stop when you're SATISFIED not when you're full or can't breathe anymore. Save the rest for later, but don't shove it in your body where it will be wasted as your body doesn’t need any more - full info about how to recognise this is in the book.

5. aim for the 'bliss' point - the amazing feeling of happiness that keeps you addicted to freedom eating - what this is and how to know is in the book

6 - and finally the lynchpin to why this works with anyone who has to avoid certain foods, and how this works to help you give up a sugar addiction and why this works long term - pay attention to the way your body feels afterwards.

You can read more in the free sample of TTFLS 2 - which you can get in eBook or paperback in kindle - here - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Till-Fat-Lady-Slims-2-0-ebook/dp/B00O0HTIEI/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&sr=8-1&qid=1413825404

I'd like anyone taking part in the three month challenge to please agree to try to get used to these new habits, gradually adjusting and using what works for you, within the helpful guidelines given in the book. So that by mid january, they've become ‘permahabits’ and you are eating in a whole new way. If some of our girls' experiences are anything to go by, you'll have become a whole new person around food - breaking free from a lifetime's food prison is how some describe it. How satisfying.

So that's the launch of the 'TTFLS 2' part of the 'trim' challenge - u will hear from Bruce shortly about how to do the Bodyblade part. Even one minute a day is fine to begin with. Even ten seconds on each of the six is fine. And if you haven't got a Bodyblade, until you can order one (they're on waitlist) it's just a matter of doing some sort of regular exercise that will tone your body each day, so get thinking!

PLUS - tonight Bruce will explain on here the importance of stretching every day too.

He's also going to be logging on once a week to chart your progress on the 'Bodyblade QVC' Facebook group too - so that anyone who wants to discuss any queries or questions, he will pop on to that group at various times to reply.

Finally, once you're au fait with Freedom Eating, you can come join our closed group called 'till the fat lady slims' (not 'TTFLS' -that takes you to a foreign site for some reason!) But join it only once you've got the book and have begun using the principles - as that's where everyone shares the amazing successes they've been having with freedom eating.

BRUCE – THE MONDAY ESSAY & transcript of Q & A.

Hello Bodyblade Ohana (that’s family in Hawaiian). Happy to join you this evening. Here is just a little something to get you thinking about flexibility, stretching and the importance of both!! Strength, wellness, flexibility, nutrition and cardiovascular health are all part of the formula for a long and happy life. Warm up, cool down and stretching are equally important and essential for the health of your joints ligaments and muscles. It is more important to warm up before exercise which doesn't mean stretching for 15 minutes. Warm up means getting the blood flowing, the joints moving and the brain and muscles communicating. The best time to stretch is either after your workout or at a separate time set aside for just stretching. The proper way to stretch is slowly and within your comfort zone. The goal is to lengthen and mobilize the joints in the body. Never do ballistic bouncing types of stretching but rather slow deliberate stretching.

Combine breathing patterns with different stretching exercises. For example, extension stretching will require breathing in. An example of that would be to open your rib cage, extend your arms overhead and stretch the chest, abdominals, ribs and shoulders. Flexing or stretching the extensor muscles do best while exhaling. Stretching hamstrings is an exhaling stretch (because you flex your body) while stretching the quads does nicely when you inhale. There is a relaxing, rhythmic pace to stretching when you incorporate the proper breathing patterns.

Remember, blood flow brings oxygen and nutrition to the tissue like a train bringing supplies and picks up waste products to transport away from the tissue. There are many books and videos about stretching for Yoga, sports, performance, shoulders, legs, rehab and so much more. I like the Stretching books by Bob Anderson because they are designed for people to be successful. From beginner to expert, this is a great resource guide to stretching. Here is a link to see what the book looks like.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlOOw9_tm8U

Q&A

Susan Farrell
It's a fantastic challenge Debbie - I am using my Bodyblade daily for at least 3 minutes; but I'd like to follow your freedom eating from here, and not officially join, as I've failed so many times with dieting etc., that I'm fearful of making it all official and then letting myself down again. Hate to sound defeatist, and I will give you my results if I'm successful within the 3 months. I have to do this - I have been given stern warnings from my doctor/consultant

Debbie Flint
Susan - you have to do what is right for you hon – don’t be scared of failure - you're the sort of person for whom freedom eating was created, believe me! lol x

Debbie Flint
Fab post Bruce Hymanson - lots of wise words

Bruce Hymanson
You know I love talking about Bodyblade and making a difference in people's lives!

Bruce Hymanson
There is so much information about stretching, I will be happy to answer any questions about anything but this is a good reference guide for all.

Debbie Flint
Some amazing comments on the Bodyblade QVC group now Bruce - have you been reading some of them? Like this one from Sarah P – “OMG>>>> just done my daily super six and Wow.....I did a full minute on each! I cant believe it. Its four weeks now since I started. I am an over weight unfit 48 year. If I can do it, anyone can. What a fantastic but of equipment. I love my body blade”

From me - I absolutely love my bodyblade - it's making such an amazing difference to my shoulders, arms, stomach, lower back, hips, thighs, abdomen
It's lovely being stronger too - lifting things more easily, pushing open heavy doors without feeling my weak shoulder pulling.

Sarah Elizabeth
Bruce Hymanson - just a quick question as I find it difficult doing no.6 of super 6 so I do it one handed Left and Right. Is this still ok as it's still mega hard? x

Bruce Hymanson
Hi Sarah, the key to getting the Hip & Thigh Sculptor is to move the blade side to side quickly and only one inch or so. You don't have to be mega strong to do this. It is all about the coordination. You can clap your hands quickly, right? Move the blade quickly to match the rhythm. Doing with one hand is OK to. The key is to keep trying and do the other positions too.

Bruce Hymanson
Most people talk about how the strengthening with Bodyblade helps them functionally improve. Comments like, I can sit straighter for longer periods of time without fatigue. I can lift and move heavier packages more easily than before. The overall effect is moving better, feeling better, looking better and performing better each and every day. Don't forget, some of the best comments is how much people enjoy the way they look in the mirror!!

Nicky Crane
Hi Bruce can I just clarify we need to warm up raise our heart rates before using body blade and stretch afterwards. Thank you

Bruce Hymanson
Hi Nicky. In any exercise program, warm up is essential for getting the body ready for activity. Gentle mobility, flexing and extending the joints in your four extremities and trunk. Increasing blood flow throughout the body etc. I prefer a stretching program after the workout when your muscles are warm. Light stretching before exercise is good and different from time set aside for strictly stretching. Hope that answers.

Joanne Kershaw
Hi Bruce should we be aiming to do the Bodyblade everyday.

Bruce Hymanson
Hi Joanne, You can do Bodyblade 3-4 days a week or you can train every day. Try to do the 6 minute workout when you exercise. You can assume each position and start and stop as needed through the course of one minute. So, you might do 10 seconds. Fine, stay in the position, start and stop but keep trying for the full minute, then, on to the next. Before long, you will see your endurance improve and find yourself lasting longer during each exercise!!

Debbie Flint
Bodyblade helped me get in size 12! '50's fair on saturday - vintage style dress! Whoop! Bye for now all x

Bruce Hymanson
Debbie, you look fantastic in that dress! And, since I saw you a couple of weeks ago, you are looking very fit and in great shape as well!!!

Bruce Hymanson
I will say goodbye for now. If you have additional questions, Debbie will forward to me and I will answer them. I am very excited to be with you for the next three months through the holidays. Just think how great it will be to get fit throughout the holiday season and enter the new year fit and feeling good!!

next week - Leighton Denny - nail king - and Nina his lovely model and business associate. And the first feedback from the Trim and Tone Challenge!

Debbie does healthy eating, supplements, a bit of exercise and a fair amount of de-stressing…

First this week, as promised a couple of weeks back, here’s what I do and generally speaking what I eat most days – or more importantly what I don’t eat. Layered over the top of it all nowadays though is the freedom to eat what I want if I really want to stray off the regime, and that freedom is ironically what keeps me sticking to it!

Food – I don’t do dairy, don’t do much meat at all, not much wheat and hardly any added sugar. I do have lots of green leafy vegetables – I do a wicked spring greens, shitake and cauliflower stir fry with toasted sesame oil and sesame seeds. Plus lots of salads. I often have the rest of last night’s dinner for breakfast (or brunch – I don’t get up till 11 most days so ‘breakfast’ doesn’t really happen in the morning!) I eat eggs sometimes and I do eat fish.

Supplements – I always – always – take high dose EPA fish oil – without fail. There’s so much online now to explain why it makes so much difference to your body – google the connection with helping with blood pressure, cholesterol, immune system, brain and depression, concentration, heart health, skin hair and nails, eyes, sleep… you get the picture? My chats over the past decade with Dr Alex Richardson the professor who did all the studies has made this a pet subject – can you tell?! Lol. Plus I take a multi-vit, CoQ10, high Vit C and Imedeen. The latter I’ve been very impressed with for collagen density improvements in my skin since January. In the summer I also take the amino acid L-Tyrosine which is a building block for melanin which helps my photo-sensitive skin.

Exercise – I do leg master (one minute a day – but to high intensity, to ‘failure,’ ie, till I can’t do it any more!) It’s making a huge difference to my hips and thighs and bum. It’s back on QVC in January. I do a dog walk (three Labradors and a grandpog spaniel!) and at bedtime a three minute yoga stretch routine. But bodyblade is the thing that’s made the most difference of all – and reading the Monday Essay below, it’s easy to see why this high intensity short burst format works so effectively. I always do the no.6 hip and thigh EVERY day. Plus the other super six when I can (see link below to last week’s blog for the video with Bruce.)

Meditation and visualisation – the mental side of well being is almost as important as everything else and TM meditation is what I try to do every day – twice a day would be ideal. Google it. There are tons of other types of meditation eg videos to talk you through it on youtube, it’s vital to get quiet regularly enough to calm the mind. Visualisation and standing guard at the door of your mind is possibly the most important thing though – and I do keep positive, put a happy spin on everything and always think everything happens for a reason. I’m never ‘having a bad day,’ I believe ‘I’m never ill,’ (and it mostly works!) and I firmly belive that ‘whatever you believe will be true for you.’ There are tons of great books to help adapt thought habits if you think you need it – Wayne Dyer (Your Erroneous Zones, Manifesting Your Destiny, Excuses Begone) Tony Robbins (Unlimited Power,) Deepak Chopra (Ageless Mind, Ageless Body) amongst others. Plus ‘one minute manager meets the monkey,’ ‘how to talk so kids will listen and listen so kids will talk,’ ‘seven secrets of successful people’ and ‘biology of belief’ are some of the pivotal life-changing books I’ve read in the last 15 years. Plus ‘Conversations with God’ trilogy helped my bereavement process over my dad’s death in ’92. And ‘The Secret’ – the book and the DVD – have been really powerful influences, and along the same lines, ‘What the Bleep… down the Rabbit Hole’ has some mind-blowing quantum physics connecting the power of focus to making things happen in your life. Every night I write a diary and end it visualising what I want to happen in my life as if it’s already here.

There – does that help!? Lol.

I will continue my ‘journey’ as they say, and in January there will be a new update incorporating the latest stories and info and inspiring testimonials so watch this space!

Another fab TTFLS update

As regulars will know, my book Till the Fat Lady Slims 2.0 – the ‘When’ Diet is creating some fabulous testimonials on the facebook group of the same name – stepping out of Food Prison is the gift to your body that keeps on giving in the form of being happy not guilty, losing weight and fitting your clothes better – whilst enjoying food more than ever before.

Dianne posted this week – “This has been a good week for me. Eating the foods I like regardless of calorie content, only eating when I'm hungry and not allowing myself to be pressurised by family. I'm feeling more in control of my life. Yippee for me.
Hope everyone is keeping in good health and doing well.”

Jennifer responded – “I agree I have had the best week for a long time food wise, eating what you want when you are hungry and stopping when satisfied is the way for me from now on. It is such a simple concept I am amazed that it has taken me this long to rediscover it. The dieting industry has a lot to answer for.”

Sharon W added – “I have only just started this and must say I do actually feel I have stepped out of the food prison - been in there many years so a bit daunting but blimey this freedom thing feels good! Onwards and upwards!”

It all makes me feel very, very proud indeed.

So get TTFLS 2 - the new one is updated with more info about freeing yourself from sugar addiction first, about how to incorporate the basic principles - the 'When' Diet - into any traditional diet - and you can discover the 'SuperSix' principles which (inspired by Bodyblade!) are defined in the clearest way I've ever written them. Plus links to more resources, some secretly posted on this website - just go to the TTFLS tab above to find out more.

The Monday Essay is all about high intensity exercise and why exercise is the best anti-ageing pill of all. Dr Michael Mosley is one of the most influential people in the past few years.

THE MONDAY ESSAY

Exercise - the best anti-ageing pill of all?

Yes really – it is. In the New Scientist this week they reported the obvious – but with scientific back up. Music to the ears of us jigging, wobbling, vibrating Bodybladers. The main story focussed on drug companies attempting to help prevent muscle loss but the byline said – just do some exercise for anti ageing benefits! As we age, the muscle fibres start to perform less well and we lose muscle mass. If you lose, eg grip, you’re more likely to fall, have accidents etc. One in three who fracture their hip die within 12 months, for instance. But muscle is also the place where the body stores amino acids, the building blocks for the body’s lifeforce, protein. So when someone with little muscle falls ill, they don’t have much in the way of reserves to call upon to help fight illness. PLUS healthy muscle consumes glucose, produced from eating our meals, so if you don’t have much muscle, you are more likely to suffer from diabetes as the body finds it hard to deal with sugars. Read the whole report here.

So how easy is it to gain muscle back? And is it ever too late?

A study last November at a London University showed it’s never too late and that even people who began regular exercise at retirement were three times more likely to become healthy agers than those who didn’t – healthy agers being defined as "those participants who survived without developing major chronic disease, depressive symptoms, physical or cognitive impairment." Wouldn’t you rather be one of those? Read more about the study here.

A Harvard-affiliated cardiologist and fitness expert says, "The fitter and more active you become, the longer you'll live and less heart disease you'll have.” Read more here, especially if you’re in your 60’s-80’s.

And the latest thinking is that High intensity interval training can be the best for swift results – as Dr Michael Mosley explains in this fascinating feature on the BBC website about how just a few minutes a week can help if it’s of the right kind. He spoke to Jamie Timmons, a professor at Loughborough University who assured him that just three minutes of HIT a week have been shown to improve the body's ability to cope with sugar surges (i.e., your metabolic fitness), and how good the heart and lungs are at getting oxygen into the body (your aerobic fitness), both important measures of your future health. Do read his experience and how little exercise made such a big difference to him. Plus it reduced the amount of calories he would eat in the 24 hours after the exercise too. The basic principle is to alternate 60-second bursts of activity with 90-second recovery periods - i.e. one minute on, 1½ minutes off, he says. Read more here. You can also watch extracts from the Horizon programme where he spoke about HIT exercise on Youtube.

In this 14 minute interview Dr Michael Mosley explains the 5:2 diet first, then sugar and why whole veg is better than smoothies, then Fast Exercise, and how short bursts work to help lose belly fat, and about his book of the same name about HIT.

So what about this Bodyblade thing then!! How about that? Isn’t it exactly what’s being described above?! What do we do on the Supersix? One minute bursts of activity! If you haven’t got one yet, join the band of people experiencing trimmer toned upper bodies and even tum and hips and thighs.

I can’t say enough about this incredible piece of equipment – do google more about HIT and its effects, and do watch the many Youtube videos about how to use it. Plus as above, see last week’s blog with links to Bruce and I demonstrating the Supersix and a whole hour’s show on QVC. Get one, and the wall chart, here.

Back to you chat EVEY KURLANDER 13/10/14

Hello, I am here and ready for you all, looking forward to chatting x

Q) Where do you get your inspirations from ? X

A) Hello Dawn, the inspiration for the Collections are from Ioannis and Ioatta, my inspiration for styling the shows is as if I would do when styling the Collections in the showroom
The preparation for the shows takes some time too, as I like to try and bring styles for you to see from the mainline Collection and to get an idea from you all when you comment on pieces that aren't on the website, but that you like eg the infamous Harems :)

Q)  I was on the train last week and i saw a lady wearing the cape panel tunic, I saw like ooowww Join Clothes

xx

A) Dawn, I love it when out and about and I see a lady in Join Clothes :) It makes me feel very proud indeed :)

Q) when are the harems back and can you post some pics of yanis and yotta? x

A) Debs, the Harems should be back with us after October 24th x

Q) You skin & hair is in great shape ! Please share your beauty tip ?? x

A) Hmmm, Dawn, thank you for your compliments. I trained as a Beautician and so skincare has always been important to me, and I cleanse and care for my skin day and night... Hair is a different matter, am very curly, and so I do have it blow dried and I love Percy and Reed products and use a mask weekly to protect my hair.

Q) Hi Evey. Love the range
A) Hello Andie, happy to hear from you and thrilled that you like Join Clothes.. What do you love in particular ?

A) The tunic tops.

Q) Hello Evey, all of the tops look so easy to wear.  They look great on screen. Im just a bit worried that they don't look so great on me (benefit of QVC MBG),  I must admit I have high hopes for my purchases once they arrive.  Shows over the last few days have been fab.  Well done Evey. xI'm not tall and elegant!!!  LOL

A) You don't have to be tall to be elegant, and when you put on a piece of Join Clothes, you will feel GORGEOUS

Q) Hi Evey you commented on my pic on I'm a QVC queen. I am the lady who was in hospital with diverticulitis. You said you did Hot Yoga, I had never heard of this so I looked it up. Definitely going to give it a whirl. Your shows are fab and you look great. xxx

A) Thank you Monica, and hoping that you are feeling well now, I myst say that you look absoloutely lovely :)

Q) One of the models, Goody I think she is called, looks stunning in Join Clothes.  Like Dianne above, I'm not tall and elegant either - I'm short and dumpy LOL

A) Mari, Ioatta always looks elegant and stylish and she is not tall... Anne Dawson and Kathy look fab too, so we try to cater for different heights and sizes :)

Q) Evey - talk about your background and how you got into doing what you now do - you're a very spiritual person too, right?

A) I have always loved Fashion, but was very shy growing up. When I was asked to be a Guest on the show i literally Freaked !!!!!!!But, I was also just coming out of a divorce and decided that I would face my fears and new challenges, and I found that once I pass the first two minutes of the show, I am very comfortable and can talk for England !!! The easiest part is talking about the clothes and I am passionate about the Collection too xIn terms of spirituality, I am Jewish and it is not part of my religion to believe in past lives, spirit and a higher energy as such, but I am very much drawn to mediumship, and I sat in a circle developing my mediumship which I very much enjoy too... I have lots of Crystals too, and find that different crystals are incredibly comforting and balancing too :)Nowadays, I can only work with like minded people, and if I feel drawn to certain people or work, it is normally because I am meant to connect up with them, and have something to learn from them too :)

Q) Do you think you will take this forward and explore further?

A) Yes, I do think so Dianne, but I believe that it has to be at the right time too. I am lucky to have lots of messages through dreams and find them a useful tool too :)

Q) I agree about crystals Evey - they can be very comforting. X

A) I love Crystals, I always kept one in my Bra, a pink one for love, Rose Quartz, but had to remember to take it out too as could fall out at inappropriate moments !!!!

Q) evey - how do you retain your slim shape? have you ever had a weight problem? x

A) Weight is a sore point, as I am an emotional eater and have a bad sugar addiction. I have to be mindful because of the Diverticulitis, but I used to be a lot heavier before my first marriage when I was 19, then I lost a couple of stone, and when I got divorced I lost a lot more too. Since becoming engaged, I have put on weight, but I do have to watch it x
I have been to Athens in Greece when I first met Ioannis, and he introduced me to Haloumi Cheese, and I have loved it ever since :) Ioatta fed me lots of yummy food, and although I do not speak Greek, and Ioatta only speaks a little English, we communicate with cuddles :)

Q) evey what sort of books and films do you enjoy x

A) I love Criminology, and I would have loved to have been a Private Detective !!! I read James Patterson and Patricia Cornwell and also love Brian Weiss's books. I have a little bedside book called The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran, and one of my fave books is Tuesdays with Morrie
Films, I am a hopeless romantic Debbie, and I loved The Time Traveller's Wife, and I also love thrillers too. I saw Gone Girl on the weekend, but that did unnerve me :(

We are back with Join Clothes November, the first weekend, and Earth Spirit October 30th x

Back to you chat DOMINIC HILL – AURORA - 13/10/14

Q) Hello Dominic!!! Welcome to our wacky weekly chats! You have persuaded me to buy a few pieces of Aurora and I could not be more pleased! I especially love the warm tones of precious metals, like the rose gold married to the rose and amethyst crystals! Any new designs coming with those combinations?

A) So Jill: YES plenty of that lovely colour combination, a favourite of mine and rose gold very on trend at the moment

Q) Get ready..1. How old were you when your voice broke ? 2. Are you married ? 3. What's your shoe size ?  lol...that's what all the ladies want to know.

A) Sue: you naughty minx! Ok I'm game: voice dropped at 12, overnight literally!! No I'm not married, I'm single, and my shoe size is 11!!! Happy? :)

Q) Only joking Dominic, can you tell me have you ever designed a piece yourself ?

A) Sue: yes I have designed probably over 30% of the collection, particularly early on

Q) Hello Dominic x Have you ever been approached by a Celebrity for you to design a piece for them ? X

A) Dawn: the parent company of Aurora - where I was commercial director - collaborated with Giles Deacon, Alesha Dixon, Lily Allen, Agent Provocateur and a few others not coming to mind So yes we have worked with celebrities - but to be honest that type of jewellery doesn't excite me: I'm excited by pure jewellery designs. Some of my closest friends are very talented designers and I see some incredible work

Q) What do you like to do in your spare time ? x

A) Dawn: I am a bit of a driven character so I get up to quite a lot: I used to have a record label as a hobby, over the last three years I have been making a documentary film on a pro-Bono basis, and this will premiere at BFI Southbank on World Cancer day In February I love to dance, and music is very important to me But mostly I enjoy having my close friends over for long dinner parties! :) im sure we are all familiar with that one

Q) Hi Dominic, I love you and aurora and have 20 pieces now, I can't resist, I especially like your friendship bracelets. Will you have a TSV before christmas. See you at 5pm tomorrow. Xx.

New Oct-Dec Trim and Tone Challenge

Well now the September weekly Back to You show has ended on QVC, what do we do now?! A lot of people have asked me how I’ve been doing it, getting trim and as you regulars will know, in large part it’s been – of course – Freedom Eating via my semi-autobiographical weight loss book, Till the Fat Lady Slims (see below.) Plus the exercise that centers around Bodyblade amongst others.

Well, in the run up to the next series for New Year New You in January, how would you fancy keeping it all going? How? With the new ‘tone up and lose weight’ three month challenge. From October to December inclusive, keep up the hard work you’ve grown accustomed to - via the weekly Back to You shows and the one minute challenge - keep going with the healthy living. Keep going with the Till the Fat Lady Slims book and Freedom Eating – see below for how to get the new ‘TTFLS 2.0 – the ‘When’ Diet – which includes more about my routine. But still people requested more info.

So, I’ve been writing the new TTFLS update for a special hardback collectors’ edition for gifting, and I’m aiming to bring it to you next year. And part of it is basically what I do.

So many people asked, I thought, why not? So I’ve written down my own routine in depth, including what supplements I take, what macrobiotic daily things I take like miso soup, plus an outline of how to get started on Freedom Eating, for beginners.

Guess what I’ve called it?

The ‘D.F. Plan’ Diet! Haha!

If you’d like to take part, it’ll be mainly on Facebook, but if you can email me your own updates you can also take part.

I’d like you to email me as below, to register to take part in the challenge. This is a serious quest to get your body and your health sorted – what you dream of – it all starts here. So put yourself out to email me the information as below.

How to register

Send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . Answer these questions -
1. Two paragraphs on your current situation (age, height, weight, or dress size,) plus dieting history and lifestyle (job, family to look after, health).

3. A pic please - a before - and be prepared to give me an after at some point.

You should be prepared to do some exercise or movement or whatever you are capable of.
And if you can, prepare to join a Facebook weekly webchat (our equivalent of a slimming meeting) on Till the Fat Lady Slims private group. And finally, prepare to be honest – commit to giving a weekly or fortnightly update from you – an honest one. I'm learning from u guys here too!

So - email the above. By Monday 13th if poss. Lucky for some!!

TTFLS 2.0 – the ‘When’ Diet

As the paperback becomes available on Amazon (click here for paperback) - as well as the eBook (click here) - here’s another new testimonial from Jennifer Gordon Cairns on the TTFLS facebook group –

I have been overweight for most of my adult life and I am now 66, I have tried every diet but only ended up putting on even more weight. After reading this book I now feel totally liberated I am only on my second day and I do find it hard not to continue counting calories but I am sure that will come. There was left over cheesecake in the fridge tonight and I meant to have a slice but after eating my main course (of which I left some) I no longer needed to have desert so fed it all to my husband. He is one of the thin people who can take or leave food and cannot understand why anyone would eat when they are not hungry. I skipped breakfast today but fancied cheese on toast about noon and had and enjoyed that with no guilty feelings. Looking forward to day 3 of my new regime.”

I will never cease being proud when I read our ladies’ stories. What would yours be? Buy the book and just give it a go – you never know if this time, it will work.

The Monday Essay – The Power of Belief

It’s not just a happy clappy issue, ‘belief’ really does change your biology. Don’t believe me, just listen to Dr Bruce Lipton’s explanation about how the power of perception can actually control your body’s biology. Including - ‘did you know a schizophrenic can have blue eyes in one personality then they change to brown in another? That they can be allergic to cats in one, and play happily in another?’ I know, riiight?! Don’t miss it.

Bruce Lipton’s audio book is so interesting, it’s one of those I’ve listened to over and over again.

One of the most fascinating sections concerns how children learn and how behaviours and beliefs are committed straight into our subconscious when we are young – really young. He describes how toddlers up to 6 generally are in brain wave patterns similar to a hypnotic state in adults. If they say they are on a horse fighting a dragon, they really are, in their minds.

In the same way, if someone keeps telling a little child they are ‘not good enough’ and don’t deserve a treat, that’s the self-belief they will carry with them their whole life, as 95% of what we do is governed by the sub-conscious, and therefore by our tribe and their habits, rules and expectations. Such amazing info.

Why? Because if you can’t lose weight, you may have self-confidence issues, and at the heart of them may be stuff you heard growing up. Now the subconscious is like a tape player – there’s nobody in there, so talking to it, or ‘discovering the reasons why’ you are like you are, just doesn’t change anything. Utterly fascinating, especially if you really want to stop self-sabotaging with your own weight loss, for instance.

Back To You QVC live webchat – DORIS 6th October 2014

Back to you live chat Doris Dalton

Q) Jill Dowding-Walker
Hi Doris - I think you look marvellous! A real testament to your wonderful range. I have heavy pigmentation and de-pigmentation as well as lots of redness and broken capillaries. Which would be better for me - your concealer, your foundation, or both?

A) Doris Dalton
Hi Jill Dowding-Walker I know the feeling all too well... Redness is always a toughie. However, I would tell you to start with Conceal it. It covers my redness and freckling beautifully. Its oil free as well. When you put any foundation or concealer on particularly with redness, you must use a technique called stippling. Don’t swirl it around on your face. Stippling means a light tapping on to the skin. You will use less make up and it won’t appear so heavy. Try that... if you need more info on how to stipple, then let me know. I would be more than happy to explain it further... xoxooxoxDoris Dalton
Hi Jill Dowding-Walker I would definitely start with Conceal it. It has a very high coverage, but it is light weight. That is what I use ion my tough areas... I love the foundation as well, but it sounds like you are looking for super coverage... that is what you will get with Conceal it... When you get it home, make sure you start with a very light amount and stipple. Please don't swirl it around, you will get better results with a stippling application... Hope that helps... Please let me know... xooxox

Q) Debbie Flint
Doris its deb presenter! I have a show with u in a few weeks! Just wanted to say your BB drops are fab! And eye shadows v easy to blend! Love being on with u! Enjoy tonight and welcome to our web chat!! X

A) Doris Dalton
HI Debs... I am here... I am so excited to chat with everyone tonight and more excited for our show together. All of our holiday items will be in for the shows... xoxoxo

Q) Sue Poole
Hi Doris, I just received your concealer and foundation. They are both brilliant. I'm in my early 50's and still have oily t- zone. The concealer covers without being heavy. I can even use on its own. Foundation is perfect as its water base. I'm very impressed with them both. Oh and your lipstick and gloss set which I got at the same time are lovely. Thank you

A) Doris Dalton
I so love that you guys love the Conceal it... I have the worst redness and freckles. I needed to make something that would cover my face without looking like a mask... It is music to my ears when I know you love it...Thank you so much... Sounds like you are an official Doll!!!! I love it. I would love if you sent me some pics so we can post them as well... xooxoxox

Q) Debby Lisa Ross
Hi Doris, I just wondered if you will be bringing back the finishing powder with the attached Brush inside it which you used to do as I loved that and tried to get another one but it was on waitlist for ages and now I see it is not online at all. Many thanks. Xx

A) Doris Dalton
Hi Debby Lisa Ross We actually have a new pressed version of the Mirage powder coming in January. Everyone hated throwing the brush away and wanted something a tad more portable... so the new one comes with a fab brush in a gorgeous compact... with just the perfect finish. I love it even better...

Q) Sharon Harvey
Doris Dalton Thank you so much for joining us today! I love your Conceal It Concealer! Firstly, the packaging is fantastic, clean and very handy and secondly the coverage is amazing! I can use it sparingly where needed on “good days" or all over when more coverage for my tired skin is needed. I find this so hydrating and breathable too! Thank you.... Looking forward to trying your brow fix next xx

A) Doris Dalton
Hi Sharon Harvey thank you for the kind compliments. It brings me so much joy to know that you love the range. Brow Fix is actually one of my favourite products. Brows are the most important part of your make up routine. It brings structure back to your face. You know that I created Brow Fix 6 years ago... Hard to believe... But I had lost all of my brows... I honestly can’t believe that it’s been 6 years, I have no idea where all the time goes...I am such a huge fan of the brows... A natural brow though... xoxooxo

Q) Melissa Lane
Hi Doris, just wanted to say, I love your positivity and sense of fun. Looking forward to your next show. Xxx

A) Doris Dalton
Hi Melissa Lane Thank you so much... Anytime I can laugh, make someone laugh or just have a great time is when I am the happiest... My whole family is pretty funny. Sitting around the dinner table was always my favourite time. We would laugh so hard till we got side aches. I love being positive and around positive people. I know we all have life just in general to deal with and sometimes that is plain tough enough... So if you can find that bit of light in a situation instead of all of the bad, your life is just so much better for it... xooxoxox

Q) Dawn Robinson
Hello Doris and thank you so much for joining us  I absolutely adore your products ! My favourites are the Radiance Booster, Correcting Powder & the Conceal it Concealer and your lip glosses are pure luxury. What are your favourite Doll10 products xx

A) Doris Dalton
Hi Dawn Robinson YEAH...? Love that you are a Doll!!! Hmmn, as for my fav products in the line... I would have to say Conceal it and Brow Fix... I don't leave home without those two... It’s hard to pick absolute favourites because they each kind of do something different. I do love the radiance booster because it really does give you the look of a lift. I use the booster as a lip liner and that makes my lips look bigger too... I have so many new things coming for 2015 that know it is getting even harder for me to choose... My main goal is for YOU to love them. I’m sitting here smiling right now... Because it make me so happy that you do... xoxoxo

Q) Deborah Jane Bald
Hi Doris, I have watched many of your shows, but I am a Doll 10 virgin where should I start? x

A) Doris Dalton
HI Deborah Jane Bald I just love a Doll 10 virgin... First, you must tell me a bit about yourself.. What type of skin/colouring etc. also what type of coverage do you like...? Please let me know and I can guide you on where to start... xoxox

Q) Chelle Jones
Hi Doris can you advise the best eyeshadow and eyeliner colours for me I have dark brown hair and grey blue eyes and which of your products would you recommend thank you

A) Doris Dalton
Hi Chelle Jones OOOH I bet you have beautiful eyes.. I love greyish blue eyes... A general rule for me is always start with a brown eye liner. The brown colour still creates the definition without being too harsh. A great colour combo for blue eyes are typically Plums/soft toupes/browns... I actually have a pallet called Classic Couture eye shadow pallet that has all those colours in it... It works for all eye colours... But trust me on the Brown eye liner... it really works. You can check out our Aqua Gel Liners in the espresso. Also, another little trick... line the upper lid with Brown and the bottom lid with plum or a navy for blue eyes.. And watch out!!! They will be EYE-Mazing...

A) Sue Foley
Hi Doris new to the range but having just tried yr correcting power would love for a Tsv any chance of that?

A) Doris Dalton
Hello Sue Foley Oh I am so glad you picked up the CC Powder... I am in love with that... That was brand new last week. I haven't even launched that here in the US yet. I find that to create just the right balance... by itself or over top of makeup... what a fab way to be introduced to the brand... Soon you will be an official Doll... LOL... xoxxoxox

Q) Carolann Myers
Love the duel end concealer ... got one in the kit with the foundation.... had to buy another when I saw it in last clicks ... please bring it back xxxxx

A) Doris Dalton
Hi Carolann Myers I will definitely talk to the buyers and make sure we have stock of it for you. I wish England wasn't so far... LOL... It just takes a bit to get things back in stock. We are working on trying to keep things so they don't run out so quickly... I promise... xoxoxxo

Q) Jules Fay
Hi Doris am new to your products - have red hair and fair skin - which of your products would work for me? Thanks

A) Doris Dalton
Hi Jules Fay I would love for you to try some of the products.. Here is just a general guide... Since I don't know what type of make up or coverage you like... Conceal it and Hydra fluid foundation drops in the fair shade are the same colour and both have a more pink undertone. If you want full coverage, then I would say try the Conceal it. If you want medium coverage that can be built to full... then I would say the foundation... I always tell anyone that askes me... If I only had 5 minutes to do my make-up... What would I put on...? It would be a quick foundation, Brows, Brown Eye liner, mascara and a great lippie... I think they are the most essential pieces....xoxo

Q) Sam-lee Taylor
Hi Doris Dalton love your range has wonderful coverage but I find with all make up it doesn't last more than two hours any tips or is there anything I could try. Have your foundation conceal it concealer and bb drops xx

A) Doris Dalton
Hi Sam-lee Taylor..... I think everyone naturally gets a bit oily in the T zone... If you are excessively oily and you are experiencing make up melt down within 2 hours, try only moisturizing your skin at night. Don't put a heavy moisturizer on in the AM... Sometimes your moisturizers compete with your foundation and this can cause "make up meltdown" have you tried BB Drops? They are clinically proven to keep your foundation on longer... That might be an option. I also personally, dust a bit of finishing powder over my foundation in the T zone area to lock it in place... Hope that helps... xoxoxoxo

A) ZOE : I wish you had sample packs Doris Dalton, :-)would love to try your eye colours, - I have another brand set but pigments quite loose and colours - although variety, don't love any, whats your views on shiny eye colours too, the set has shiny and matt? (Thanks Doris Dalton) x

Q) Zoe - hi Doris, what skincare do you use? And what do you do to relax?
A) HI Zoe Robins As for skin care, I love Dr Denese... Not sure if you have it there in the UK. .. I like Philosophy Purity as a face wash as well. I’m not a big person for relaxation... I wish I did a bit more... I do play words with friends before I go to bed at night... and watch the real house wives, but don't tell anyone... LOl

Q) Doris Dalton; what a beauty and what an inspiration... I don't wear makeup (well much!) but love watching your shows! You are hilarious too! I did ask last week for the guest’s guilty pleasures but no one was that forthcoming... Imagine you have a few Doris?! Xx

A) Hi Michael James Hamlyn You are a Doll!!! Thank you so much for the sweet comments...You are the Best... I love to have fun with the shows... It’s make up and it should be fun... (I do love to laugh though...) xoxoxoxxoHey Michael James Hamlyn Now... You know... No one is going to tell you what their real guilty pleasures are... but I can tell I love stick toffee Pudding... I love to eat and try new Great food...

Q) Would love to try the foundation next Doris any idea when the medium will be back in stock
A) Hi Sue Foley the medium foundation is shipping in a week. I am back November 1st... You can put your name in for wait list and you get it before it goes to air... Hope that helps... xoxoxoxo

Q) Hi Doris, I love your eye shadow compact and lipsticks. I am hoping for a doll10 TSV in the future. Is there anything in the pipeline? Please say yes!! I think you are an inspiration, and love watching your shows. Please stay longer next time. Xx

A) Hi Nicki Bailey Thank you so much!!!! I would love to bring a TSV for you guys. We are working with the buyers to create a fab one... I don't think it will be till Fall though... I would stay as long as I could... I love the UK... PS... Your accents are just the best ever!!!! I could listen to it all day xoxox

Thank you all my lovely Dolls... I so loved chatting with all of you... Please excuse all my spelling errors... and my slow typing... But thank you all for your awesome questions... I loved every single minute of it and am honoured by all of your wonderful comments... xx

Back To You QVC live webchat – JUSTINE 6th October 2014

Q) Does GTECH do a carpet washer?

A) Jill Dowding-Walker - I'm afraid GTECH don't do carpet washers - I use Vex for that!!

Q) Love GTECH.  I have two of their products.  When I had a problem with a brush head a very nice lady called Jill help me.  Really professional company.  Both items were TSV'S from Q.

A) Sue Stewart so glad you love GTECH - which products do you have?  I can't live without my AirRam and Multi (cordless vacuum and handheld cordless vacuum)

Q) I got the GTECH on the last TSV but having changed the filter for washing found them quite difficult to fit, also there was no lavender smell with the original ones.

A) Trudi Lee - I'm sorry to hear that, the filters are a tight fit, they are meant to be, it makes them more efficient.  The lavender scent gets stronger when the vacuum is in use as the filters heat up

Q) Hello Justine and thank you so much for joining us can I just say your voice is absolutely beautiful

Published in Back to You

Welcome all the newcomers to my regular newsletters! Every one or two weeks I update you on what's been going on. You're also the first to know my major news - and some of my sneaky secrets! There's some hot gossip below, for instance!

Wedding Dressing I went to a wedding last weekend – you know, the sort of event where you dress up and feel conspicuous, especially if you’re not happy with your appearance? Well, having been Bodyblading and using Freedom Eating (new book finally out – see below) I was unusually really pleased and even took the jacket off most of the day. Want to see the dress? Go here to see pics, in this week’s QVC blog. It was a lovely day. Plus on the blog I tell you about playing a practical joke – so unlike me, but when you read what happened, you’ll see why I couldn’t resist…

SuperSix The toned tum is of course much due to using the clever Bodyblade fitness device. It looks like a ski if you haven’t seen it and it works your body 270 times a minute - that's a lot of times! No wonder it's played a big role in getting trimmer. Long way to go, still, of course, maybe another half stone by Xmas? Also – for those who wanted the link to yesterday’s SuperSix routine on the full hour’s show with Bruce, it’s here – boy was it tough. See that bottom jiggle furing the final exercise! Haha! What a great workout though - all six one minute exercises in full, one after the other. I enjoyed the show, did you? Did you do it along with me, at home? If you need to tone up, this simple device is still on 3 pay but it won’t be for long (go to qvcuk.com.) Bruce is not back till January when a new Back to You series will be out, I hope!

Hot gossip – Oo, I had a bit of good news this week - it looks like a limited edition hardback of my 'Till the Fat Lady Slims 2.0 – the ‘When’ Diet,' may be coming to QVC at some point next year. Another proud moment, that’ll be. I would love it if anyone who has already had the eBook from Amazon could review it for me – on Amazon? Or if you’d like to read the first chapter for free, just click here. The paperback is coming very soon!

TTFLS page Plus there are lots of testimonials to read from people who have recently used Freedom Eating themselves – on the relatively new page on my website, click here to read them – are you like any of the ladies listed? Maybe the same thing could happen to you. Join the facebook group too if you are on your own weight loss crusade.

Hallowe’en special – if you like short spooky stories, see what you’ll think of our little collection of supernatural tales with a twist. As mentioned recently, you can Click here to pre-order ‘Hocus Pocus ’14 – 13 spooky tales with a twist from best sellers, award winners and new voices.’  It’ll be just 99p when it’s released on 17th October – not bad considering you’ll be getting over 70,000 words! And have you put it in your diary yet, that it’ll be on free promotion when we do this year’s Hallowe’en online party on Facebook? I hope so - it's just a fun day of foodie pics, feedback, sayings and sharing ghostly goings on – you can join the fun by going here to ‘like’ the page and here to ‘join’ the event!

Gosh it’s going to be a busy autumn!

Apart from that, my daughter’s house is coming on a treat. Will she be moving out from my house before October 31st…? Eeek?! All change again in the Flint household!

If you want to reply, it comes to me, not a web-bot!

Have a great week and if you are having luck with TTFLS 2.0, I’d love to know – email me!

Best wishes

Final Back to You QVC Show

It was a fabulous run of four shows on Mondays in September and I hope to bring this clever well being series to you again in January. That's the plan anyway - and there's a little bird discussing with me the option of selling on QVC the hardback version of 'Till the Fat Lady Slims 2.0 - the 'When' Diet - collectors' edition at some stage. That'd be nice! I will post the full show video clip here soon.

Bruce did his best, bless him, to explain about our favourite exercise device in the couple of minutes allocated to it during this final show - then we attempted a supersix workout summary live, with Bruce on the phone from America - how funny was it, given the time lag! If you missed it I will post the link!

Bruce’s bodyblade two minute challenge mix up! Lol!

If you also missed the VT’s of vox pops (videos of interviews with people on the street – ‘da da dee da deet’ ) I’m going to post them on this Friday’s QVC blog and the link will be here then. Lots of different views about what people do to get Back to You on different topics! It was fun doing them. And if you feel really strongly that you’d love this series back on QVC, do email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to let them know your thoughts!

Thanks everyone for joining in and making it so worthwhile – I may not say it often, but it really matters to me that so many of you are finding what I do such a help and being inspired. It’s my absolute pleasure and long may it continue!.

Ps - the winner of the big September competition was Cathy Richardson from Kent who said

"How to get back to the 18 year old me... I'm a full-time working mum with 2 teenagers and my life revolves around making them happy with sleepovers, gadgets, cinema and football matches - ie 'mum's hotel and taxi service!' Keeping fit? I saw a sign on a school gate about badminton once a week - not a fancy sports hall or gym (where you have to ring at exactly the right time or you can't book a court - that's why i gave up years ago!) I told my friend about it and she said I'll join you. Wow, one phone call later, we are set to go and that 18 year old fitness memory is about to be real again and come back to me!" Well done Cathy!

Each week we do a webchat - and this will continue ad infinitum, it's been so popular! Yesterday it was the turn of fabulous fashionista Renee, and Decleor's Fiona, and their Q&A sessions are at the bottom of this blog.

So - who do we have in the next few weeks?

- 6th October - Doris from Doll 10!

Is the Lady Still Slimming?

Er, yeh! So I went to my brother Derek's wedding and met up with Chloe (my nephew Dean's girlfriend.) She and I were both a whole lot happier with the pics being taken of us - makes a change! And what a difference it makes to feel trimmer. For me, to feel less conspicuous if my arms are out, is a godsend and it's all been thanks to TTFLS and Bodyblade toning. It was lovely to look at pics and see a gap under my arms next to my ribcage where there used to be just belly - obviously the dress makes a massive contribution, but I'm definitely feeling it in my upper arms, shoulders, neck etc. Leg master's also making my hips and thighs more trim too. (And dog walking and yoga stretch help.)

What do I do? So many people have asked me what is my routine, what supplements I take etc, that I'm going to do a whole blog about it - watch out for it coming soon - just in case you want to follow what I do. Just in case. Obviously the idea is to be free to follow what your own body says and follow your own instincts, that is if you're doing full Freedom Eating! But if you're someone who likes more structure and guidelines, it'll be available for you soon.

Meanwhile, Chloe's now lost four stone and got herself in a size 12 and this everyone at the wedding was like 'Chloe! You look fantastic! You look so slim!' Aren't they words we all wish to hear, if we've struggled with a weight problem for so long?! So get TTFLS 2 - the new one is updated with more info about freeing yourself from sugar addiction first, about how to incorporate the basic principles - the 'When' Diet - into any traditional diet. In fact, you can discover the 'SuperSix' principles which (inspired by Bodyblade!) define in the clearest way I've ever written them, how to follow Freedom Eating. Also links to more resources - including some on this website - just go to the TTFLS tab above to find out more. The link for the new book - eBook - is here (and coming soon - paperback.)

Let me know your story about Freedom eating and using Till the Fat Lady Slims as a life changer - it'd be great to get your feedback and maybe you could be one of my before and afters! x

Also below, the Monday Essay - this week it's all about The Egoscue Technique – helping people recover from all sorts of joint and body issues using small but regular exercises – like how a brace works on the teeth! Only without the brace… Or the teeth... :- )

THE MONDAY ESSAY – the EGOSCUE TECHNIQUE

Years ago I began my journey of self-discovery (self-help / motivational audiobooks etc) with the Tony Robbins ‘Personal Power’ set I got from QVC. I interviewed him in QVC US, broadcast back live to QVC UK, when he used to appear regularly on shopping telly. And followed his 30 day programme – it’s very inspirational. After that I signed up for one of the best things I’ve ever done – Life Mastery – a three seminar course, featuring seminars in Miami and also in Hawaii. At the latter, they featured many things that make a huge difference to health and it opened my eyes to ‘what I didn’t know I didn’t know,’ and now that I knew it, I had to do it. One of them was better hydration (and so began the Penta water story) and one of them was the Egoscue Technique.

Pete Egoscue is an inspirational practitioner who invented a system for making your body fix itself using small but regular positional exercises. I wish I’d kept mine up, for a slightly dipped shoulder. But it was happening just as my life turned upside down and my kids and three job changes needed more attention. But this week I saw it mentioned again in an article by one of my favourite book bloggers, Jane Friedman.

How I Recovered From 3 Years of Chronic Back Pain by Jane Friedman

She says “I was given a daily 20-minute passive stretching routine that was primarily based on the Egoscue Method. Every 2-4 weeks, I would see the therapist again so she could evaluate progress and give me a new set of exercises to help me further advance. The pain began to lessen.” She also used other resources too – it’s an interesting article. And even more so for me, since I was there fourteen years ago listening to him talk at a lecture and meeting some of his therapists.

You can listen to some of Pete Egoscue’s podcasts at www.painfreeradio.org.

Explore his website and google what others say about him. It won’t be for everybody, but I have had first hand knowledge of people for whom it’s been a life-changer. And since that’s the kind of thing I try to introduce you to with these Monday Essays, it’s a worthy subject. If you do use it, it’s not cheap, but if it works it may be the best thing you ever do for chronic pain. Keep me informed, and good luck.

NEXT WEEK – the power of Belief and how it can actually control your body, including ‘did you know a schizophrenic can have blue eyes in one personality then they change to brown in another? That they can be allergic to cats in one, and play happily in another?’ I know, riiight?! Don’t miss it.

29th  SEPTEMBER – BACK TO YOU QVC FACEBOOK Gp CHATS

Q) Do you use anything but Decleor?

A) Hi Zoe Robins, i try everything all
new launches from all the main brands so i can look into what they have used and see if it delivered the results. I am a product junkie. i dont necessarily stay on the products as i am wanting to see how quickly it delivers results. I am a also judge in the industry so often being sent products to try. Fiona x

Q) What would you say are you top 3 favourite Decleor products ? x

A) Hi Dawn Robinson, tricky one i would have to sayat the moment Serum Hydrotonseur, 2 in 1 Dark Circle wrinkle eraser and Micellar Oil. Although i have to say ask me next week and i will be doing something different to my skin and i will be loving the results. I constantly change my skincare rountine every month so i am ahead of my skin and it never gets bored. Fiona x

Q) Hi Fiona - love love love decleor - use foaming face wash, faves also neroli oil, prologene lift moisturiser and just discovered the neck concentrate - wow !

A) Hi Linda Ingram, wow great routine and good choices i love the hydra radiance cleansing mousse too. Fiona x

Q) Hi Fiona Brackenbury just want to say thank you for joining us tonight first of all, i value your tips & knowledge about products u have really helped me with my skin. I have a couple of questions and a request, first question i have combination skin and find that the texture on my cheeks feels uneven and can be reddish, ive tried various products but they dont seem to have made a difference or i havent used them long enough and also i seem to perspire easily over my facial area even in winter. Question 2 what do u like to do away from being at QVC and in your trainng role for Decleor? My request is can we have a kit of 400ml Alguaromes, 400ml Micellar Water, 150ml Micellar Oil, Neroil, Hydra Floral, Phytopeel & Flash Mask please... also i wud luv a facial from u and wud be more than happy to do it live on air at QVC.

A) Hi Chris Calvert, thank you so much i am loving being here i feel very honoured to have been asked. Do you take any supplements? Also strange question do you ever let your skin balance itself at night? Its just sometines your skin needs time to balance its one of the most cleverest organsin the body and we forget its can function everyday and will repair at night time so just once a month try going to bed with nothing on your skin!!!!! Fiona x

Q) What is the micellar range for what type of skin ?? Would this help me x

A) Hi Julie Hoyle, Micellar is a type of cleanser that cleanses the skin, its so clever its really deep cleanses and respects the skins fragility. It comes in a water and an oil both are brilliant. Fiona

Q) Hi Fiona, welcome. I am using prolagene gel all over as I am having rapid weight loss. Are there any other body products that would help with slackening skin? Thank you. Xxx

A) Hi Melissa Lane, i would also recommend Aromessence Sculpt under the Gel Proalgene its brilliant for firming and tightening the skin on the body. Fiona x

Q) Hi Fiona!!! I wont ask a skincare concern as you are so generous with your time on your pages you've answered countless questions for me in the past. Thanks for joining us here too!
I'd just like to know a 'non-product' beauty tip (And I'll make it harder - you cant say drinking water!) AND a guilty pleasure xxx
Thanks again xx

A) Hi Michael James Hamlyn, this may shock you ice cubes over the skin amazing!!! sleep and massaging your skin. Fiona x

The November TSv has all three Aromessence Iris, Balm Iris and Gel Prolegene. Fiona x

'How I got my publishing deal' – or 'how I got my agent' - don’t we all love to read a success story? Well after five years of studies, and as I usually say, of conferences, courses and curses, it seems many of my peers are ‘coming of age’ – just like I did in the summer when I signed to Choc Lit the UK publisher. It still thrills me to say those words. And to remember it’s true and my search is over!

Last week I met up with several of our writing clan including Litty, Carolyn, and Alix to celebrate five years since we went to the beautiful Posara writing course at watermill.net in Tuscany. We also invited lovely mate and Facebook admin genius Sharon to our reunion in the middle of London to have a good old catch up and a bit of reminiscing. Nice that we’ve all kept in touch – and so good that so many of us have now got published or self-published titles available, publishing deals, and vastly improved writing skills.

We toasted having kept in touch so well, and also having become firm friends! We do things together like the Hallowe’en Anthology freebie eBook going on sale October 10th, free Oct 28th-1st Nov, with a special Facebook online party on 31st! All four of us will be taking part in that, it’ll be like last year’s where we had lots of fun in our all-day spook-fest. It’s a fun hobby that’s for sure and for some – it’ll be a career.

Like Joanna Cannon – read her fascinating interview below, about what happened to her this autumn and the whirlwind events that most people only dream of.

Book of the Week On that topic, it's Business for Authors – How to be an Author Entrepreneur by Joanna Penn – go to http://www.thecreativepenn.com/businessbook/ for more. She uses her seven years of experience in outlining the best ways to monetise your hobby – and very good it is too!

Other News –

-          Few people in contact with the publishing industry could not know about the big Amazon battle with Hachette , one if the Big Five publishers, over wanting to sell ebooks cheaper, and give more royalties to authors. Hachette say no. And amazon have therefore dealt with Hachette authors differently whilst it rattles on. A group of authors railed against Amazon. This is a response to those authors. And it's really interesting how, yes, some people do forget that Amazon is an independent business not a public service. This letter is harsh. I wonder where your views lie...? read more here

-          Hallowe’en Anthology Author interview – Jane O’Reilly – introducing the first of our fabulous dozen – the writers who are collaborating with me on our Hallowe’en Short Story Anthology l(out 10th Oct, freebie and online Facebook party on 31st). Jane is one of the funniest writers I know and posts some wicked comments on twitter. Follow her @janeoreilly Read the interview here, including links to her books.

-          Industry Mag to feature Self-Pub titles In a partnership with Barnes and Noble, the Bookseller is to feature self-published books giving indie authors the chance to showcase their work. Yay! More here.

Beginners’ Guide And if you’re a complete beginner and want to self-publish, remember my basic guide published on here in the archives – click here for beginner's tips for self-publishing -  a summary of info, sites and links to help you on your way.

Archives Don’t forget to check out the other archives (to the left) for even more fabulous hints, tips, links and blogs. Plus - see below for my own list of books now available in paperback or eBook on Amazon!

Next week – fellow presenter Jackie Kabler and how she got her book deal for her first ever novel, with Accent Press. And links to buy Till the Fat Lady Slims 2.0 – The ‘When’ Diet – can all be found once available on the TTFLS page on this website (Monday 29th September).

And – the gap in your narrative – what happens when you get to the most tricky scenes of all…

Jo Cannon courted by Agents - Publishing Deal Imminent - after amazing writing festival success

As I explained above, Jo Cannon is one of my peers – from a Julie Cohen writing workshop in Reading, actually. Like minded ladies get together and listen to the words of wisdom from one of the industry’s whizz kids – Julie has this year been on the prestigious Richard and Judy book of the month list – so she doesn’t just teach. Many of us keep in touch (thank you Facebook) and it was with great pleasure and pride that I read about Jo Cannon’s news last week. Here is her story – I hope it inspires you!

Jo says –

‘Fairly predictably, I’ve loved writing ever since I was a child. Whenever we went anywhere, my mum would pacify me with a pen and a big jotter! I wrote my first ‘novel’ at the grand age of eleven. It was a Hammer House of Horror-esque story about a child serial killer who murdered all her teachers. How lovely. I remember for ‘research’ I asked my housemaster if blood would float in a swimming pool. I’m sure the school weren’t in the least bit concerned about me …

Whilst I was studying medicine, my life was taken over by learning how to read ECGs and stick needles in people, so I didn’t have much time to write, unfortunately. After I graduated, though, I found writing was a great way to vacuum out my mind and I started a blog. People very kindly read it and made lovely comments, and some of them even suggested that I write a novel … however, I soon found out that writing a novel was very different to writing a blog post! I spent the next few years going to workshops and conferences, talking to published authors, and trying to figure out how to write something people might want to read.

I went to the York Festival of Writing a couple of weeks ago. (September 2014) I’d written a novel about two little girls in the summer of 1976, and I entered 500 words of it into the festival’s Friday Night Live event (where you read out your work to an audience of Very Important People, a bit like a literary X-Factor!) When I found out I was shortlisted, I was scared witless, and I spent the hours leading up to the competition in a state of complete terror. Thankfully, once I was up there on stage, the nerves faded away and I quite enjoyed the experience (good old anticipatory anxiety, don’t you just love it?!) To my absolute amazement, I won the competition (and a bottle of champagne), and then everything went slightly bonkers. I had quite a few agents approach me, but (more importantly), I had lots of would-be writers (like me) come up to say how much they’d enjoyed it. I can honestly say that’s the best feeling in the world: to have someone love something you’ve written, and to want to tell you about it, is just amazing.

By the Wednesday after the festival weekend, I’d received seven offers of agent representation. Seven. How crazy is that? I felt as though I must be having some kind of transient psychotic episode … then, of course, I had the ‘problem’ of choosing which agent to sign with. After much angsty pacing, and midnight conversations with my dog, I decided on Susan Armstrong at Conville & Walsh. C&W are an amazing agency who represent some of my favourite authors, and it’s a huge privilege to be joining them. Of course, I’ll continue to work as a psychiatrist (which is my day job), because the patients I care for inspire, motivate and support me, and I can’t imagine my life without them!

It does seem as though my journey has been a bit of a whirlwind, but there have been many (many) years of pen-chewing, blank Word document-staring and painful self-doubt. I’m not really in a position to give anyone advice, but I think the most important things I’ve learned are …

  • Read, all the time, and as many books as you can (every genre has something to teach us!) Analyse why you loved (or disliked!) a book. What did the author do to catch you and hold you in the novel?
  • There are stories everywhere. Stories walk past you in the street and sit next to you in cafés. Listen and watch, and give everything a really good coat of looking at.
  • Support other writers. If you love a book, tweet about it, tell Facebook, write an Amazon review. The writing community is so friendly, and you’ll soon build up a brilliantly supportive network of people
  • Prepare to stumble along the way. Stumbling is a Good Thing. It means you’re still moving forward …

As usual you’ll find below all the summaries of Monday’s 8-9pm webchat with our special guests on main Facebook group ‘Back to You QVC.’ Then at 9pm we had a keep fit special with US dynamo Forbes Riley – including how back stretching on the inversion table can help your health. If you missed it, the full show can be found by clicking on this link.

https://grabyo.com/g/v/RFnOX137zSs

What happened on Monday night’s QVC? But you should have been there just before we did the little tease in the hour before! Roger from the inversion table, had – unbeknownst to me – unhooked the strap from the table I was using. This meant that as I leaned back, it not only went back to about 45 degrees, it kept going. As the count in my ear was going ‘ten, nine, eight…’ I was killing myself laughing, trying to get horizontal again. In the end floor manager Jude had to rush on the flip me upwards, just in time for the cameras to cut to me! Ahhh the joys of live TV! Here’s the clip of the ensuing tease I did, for the Back to You show on afterwards! Do watch it if you missed it!

https://grabyo.com/g/v/jysQjrWyorI

Then next week is not only the launch of the new updated eBook Till the Fat lady Slims but also the final Back to You live show! That means the massive competition closes – have you entered by email yet? Go here for more - visit my QVC competition blog here with all the info and ping your entry by email to the address mentioned. Winner announced on our final show on 29th September. Enter now – you never know your luck!

The Freedom Eating plan For those who asked – see the tab above for more info about the system I’ve been using to lose weight alongside my Bodyblade / leg master/ dog walk/ yoga stretch routine. The system is Freedom Eating and lots of people have been using it – I’ve been thrilled at some of the comments and feedback.

Like Elizabeth Gray who says,

“Update-a bit late-well I've followed the mantra eat what I want when I want when I'm hungry for the last 2 weeks. But no exercise other than the usual walk the dog. In a rush this morning pulled out a pair of trousers from wardrobe in semi darkness put them on not thinking and when I went downstairs realised I had not worn these trousers for 2 years because they didn't fit!! Well they do now and that are not elasticated waists or stretch - have proper waistband and zip so really pleased so is the mantra working…”

NB – the original 2002 eBook is still only 99p on Amazon! (updated version will have extra info added about sugar, how to include the basic principles with a traditional diet (that’s the ‘when diet’ part) and many more testimonials like the one above.

Whatever way you participate in the current well being theme going on around us, I hope you enjoy it! Do give me some feedback – particularly on my QVC blog – go to the link above for the current one and leave a comment at the bottom of this page!

Free podcast PLUS - if you make it down to the very bottom of the page, you'll see there's an audio file attached! This is a little chat I had with my sister - lliterally like being in her lounge whilst I was having my nails done. imagine if you overheard us talking about how, as an ex-slimming group leader, she incorporates the basic principles into her weight loss method. She's trimmed down quite a lot since January and along with exercise has managed to become the slimmest and fittest she's ever been. Listen to the audio book to find out how, why and how you can maybe use some of the pointers yourself.

THE MONDAY ESSAY – YOGA STRETCH FOR BETTER SLEEP

It’s amazing what a difference a good night’s sleep makes to me. Good sleep plus meditation, then great food and I’m rocking and rolling! I use a ‘sleepcycle’ app on my iphone which tracks how much sleep I get and generally speaking I can fall asleep pretty quickly. It shows, though, that I’m still not getting enough, if enough if ‘8 hours a night’ – I fall short about an average 6.9 hours atm. All that writing till stupid-o’clock! Still, when I saw this article I had to feature it, since the stretches seem so simple, most people can do them, or their version of them, to help improve sleep quality.

If you look at the link and see the pics, you’ll see versions of my own yoga stretch which I do each night before bed. If I don’t do it – and it only takes three minutes – I definitely notice more stiffness the next morning. And if I’ve not had my usual clean diet (eg have had a big carb meal like chips, or succumbed to a granola bar in Starbucks plus crisps maybe) I also feel it – my joints ache and I have to get the arnica on my knuckles etc.

So – along with a cool bedroom but long sleeves – using the above those are my ideal conditions to generally get good sleep.

Read more here – and give it a go – you’ve got nothing to lose except tossing and turning… if you know what I mean!

22nd SEPTEMBER – BACK TO YOU QVC FACEBOOK Gp CHATS

Joan - thanks for asking about the Perfect Match Foundation in the Dial delivery system - YES it is our dream to bring it back in 2015 - say prayers about it as the manufacturer out of Germany had to close their business some years ago so I am chasing them as they had all the tools to make the component and it would be so expensive to retool the 80 moving parts again!!! Marverine Cole – QVC Presenter -   Live Back To You Qvc Facebook chat 22/9/14

Q1) what is the best thing about Birmingham

A) Hello Lynne - the best thing about being from Birmingham? I think the people here are mainly kind, funny and friendly. I love coming home to Birmingham on my days off from QVC to see my hubby, my family, and my mates. If any of you reading have been to Birmingham then you need to make a trip - Cadbury World and all the shopping at the Bullring is awesome! Then further afield is the Black Country Living Museum, and Warwick Castle, the West Midlands Safari Park - they should hire me to work for Visit Midlands or Marketing Birmingham! Lol

Q2) Chris Dig N Doug

Marv, you’re looking so good. What's your secret?

A) Marverine Cole

Hello Chris Dig N Doug - my secret? I think it's because ever since I started Alison Young told me the best skincare to use. I did a consultation which is on YouTube. I'll post the link. Basically all my life I used Nivea and Simple and Boots own brand skincare. Since I've been using Elemis, Gatineau and Liz Earle my skin's improved massively. I've been hydrating my skin more with serums too - Elemis Tri-Enzyme, Gatineau Collagen Expert, Sarah Chapman Skin Hydrating Booster - to stop my skin getting dry. One thing I don't do that I should is drink more water! Eeeek!

Q3) Marverinr, I think if I remember right you were following Diet Chef? Are you still on it and when will it be back on QVC, preferably with easy pay! Thanks x

A) Marverine Cole

Linda Farnsworth: Hi Linda! Yes I did Diet Chef from mid-Jan to mid-Feb this year, the 28 day plan. I lost 8lbs then was good on my own for the whole week after and lost another 2lbs. I tried the 5/2 in late May but didn't do so well - I was cheating to be honest! Since I've been on hols I've piled some back on. Am looking out for easy pays on the Diet Chef when it's back. There are no shows on the schedule this coming month, then we get into Christmas and all the big shows, so I reckon Diet Chef would look odd on at that time, I reckon we won't see live DC shows until January 2015. But they are always there to order online. I might try and do a month b4 Xmas so I fit my party dresses better!

Q4) Hello Marverine thank you for joining us x what are your top 3 beauty products? And I was also going to ask you how your Diet Chef was going? Xx

A) Dawn Robinson: Hi Dawn, I'm not on DC right now but am looking to try it again before Christmas - was perusing online yesterday about which one to go for. Not sure yet. My top 3 beauty products: well I use Gatineau Refreshing Cream Cleanser every morning and night - removes my make-up like a drrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrream, I always spritz an Elemis Toner on my face (Soothing Apricot is nice) and then I put Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream on my face every day. I love tons of other items too though - a list too long to type here. What are your faves?

Q5) coooeeee Maverine I think you have gorgeous skin what brand do you use and also in terms of makeup do you use one particular brand or several x

A) Marverine Cole

Jean Yorke: Hi Jean - how are you? On my skin, since I started at QVC (a year ago now! WOW!) and on Alison Young's advice I am using better brands than before - so Elemis, Gatineau and Liz Earle mainly, though I love me a good serum: Sarah Chapman, and the Ole Henrikssen Truth Serum is something ELSE!! As for my make-up, depending on how I feel I'll use MAC and/orBobbi Brown liquid foundation and powder to set OR BareMinerals Golden Dark powder as my base. I always prime with Bare Minerals. On my eyes I have a SLEEK colour palette (from Superdrug, no less only £7.99) in Divine 12 piece Shadow Storm that I use a lot and a MAC quad. Plus I use MAC blushers. Then my mainstay lippies are MAC Rebel and Media lipsticks. Occasionally I'll do SLEEK lipgloss. I think Sleek are so groovy for the colours for darker skins. What do you like to use? Have you tried Bare Minerals foundation?

Q6)  Definatley couldn't do without sbc collegen gel and ultrasun face30 (very fair) oh Josie Maran face oil and philosophy purity made simple cleanser. All right I admit it loads of things !!

A) Marverine Cole

Chris Dig N Doug - wow! Great minds - I put SBC Collagen Gel on every day straight out of the shower, before my body moisturiser. I love love LOVE it! Not done a show with Adele yet, look forward to that. Great list you have there. Bet you look fab!

Q7)  whats your fave music and books marv? and have you had many embarrassing qvc moments?

A) Zoe Robins: Hello Zoe! I have so much fave music - I listen to Classic FM first thing I wake and last thing at night. When I'm on the tube in London and I'm stressed I have a couple of Relaxing Classics albums on my iphone to listen to. But I also love some of the chart/dance music - Ed Sheeren, Gecko Overdrive, Disclosure, Kiesha, Shift K3. And then last week I bough the Trevor Nelson Collection Part 2 with 60+ 'oldskool' Soul & RnB classics on - been playing that non-stop every since! George Benson - Give Me The Night and all that! WOW! And then I love Peter Gabriel - going to see him in concert in November, and I like Swing music cos going to see the John Wilson Orchestra soon too! Very mixed. Books - I'm more of a magazine girl - love Grazia. I like short stories books and thrillers, just read a fab book, the Murder Squad anthology by the top crime writers who've done BLUE MURDER and VERA.embarassing moments - early days last year at Christmas eating too much food on the food shows - Thorntons and Real Pie and getting a telling off by my boss! lolz!

Q8) Hi Marverine Cole, so glad you joined us tonight! I am always struck by how healthy your skin looks. You have a lovely glow. Any tips? Love your shows and the way you interact with the guest presenters to make sure we get all the info but in a fun way. Can't be easy x

A) Liz Cairns - Hi Liz, you know it really is a tricky balance. this job is so different from my newsreading and reporting - there you had a structure and you knew the stories etc, and often a script or autocue. At QVC you don't and you're torn between wanting to learn, asking inquisitive questions, listening to the guest's answers and letting them speak and THEN also doing what the producer needs you to do in terms of keeping everything on time, and smile! It's quite hectic but fun! As for skincare tips - good skincare, I don't use all of one brand (I know you're meant to, but I don't) - I look in my basket in the bathroom and use what I fancy. The only staples I can't do without are Gatineau Cleanser, Floracil to get my eye make-up off and Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream, everything else is down to my mood. But I always cleanse, tone, serum and moisturise morning and night. I didn't before arriving at QVC (naughty me!), Up above I mentioned to lovely Jean Yorke about what make-up I like to use too - more often than not it's Bare Minerals powder as my base cos it's so quick to put on!!

Q9)

Hi Marverine Cole ah. I see Miss Young has got you hooked like the rest of us. Ps loved how excited you were with Anthony yesterday. Really cheered me up.

A) Tiger Kadi - Hi Tiger (LOVE your name BTW) - thanks for the comment. How r u? You know Antthony Mark Hankins is so cool and so funny (I mean ha ha, not peculiar!). It's only the second time I've worked with him so it is a real thrill. He has such enthusiasm for what he does and I've never met anyone like him before. We meet up backstage and have a good old gossip about 'life, the universe and everything' so by the time we're on air, we're cooking on gas. He's a real darling! It cheers me up to know we cheered you up yesterday x

Q10) Craig also on Thornton is my fave to watch as he loves going for it, good for him and fun for viewers as the presenter has serious face but eying up choc! the choc is so small and I wonder how much goes, getting hungry now!do you buy loads from qvc now Marv

A) Marverine Cole

Zoe Robins - I call Craig Rowe TvPresenter 'my brother from another mother' cos everytime we see each other, we cause a riot. He is SO much fun!Zoe Robins - I bought the rose gold in today's TSV the Love Rocks bracelet cos I LOVE it. I try and be good, I could be worse. My fave item from QVC is my Bose Sound Link mini - we took it on our hols this summer and it's awesome for loud music when you want it - so tiny but proper powerful! love love love it. I just bought my first Charlie Bear anda Lulu Guinness clutch - so that's me done til Chrimbo on the spending! Lolz!

Alison O'Reilly live Back To You Qvc chat 22/9/14

Q1) Hello Alison, thank you for joining us x my question would be and I will shock a lots of ladies but I only wore my wedding ring on my wedding day and it’s been in its box ever since ! Would it cost a lot of money to have it melted down and made into a pair of earrings? Xx

A) that just made me laugh!! Hi there, Dawn, like I always say, you have to feel good about the jewellery you wear otherwise it's just like bad shoes. Cost depends on exactly what you want from the new item... are you adding diamonds or other stones? Earrings (aside from hoops=easy to do from wedding rings) are tricky things to make so you will pay a lot for your goldsmith's time. My advice is to shop around and go to reputable independent high st jewellers...or if in London or Birmingham go to the jewellery quarters and there you can really get involved in the creation process! Good luck xx

Q2) HI Alison, thanks for joining us! You are so knowledgeable when it comes to jewellery, when and where did this passion for "all things sparkly" come about?

A)  Thanks Sharon - it's really my childhood dream that just accidentally happened as a job!! I don't come from a family dripping in jewels loll but I had happy memories of gazing into shop windows with my late mother and was fascinated by all the colours, shapes and displays. By 18 I’d gained my Retail Jeweller Diploma whilst working at a fine jewellers in the town and it kinda all went from there.....the studying continues and I love learning about jewellery history!

Q3) In your spare time what do you like to do Gardening??? ( hehehe) xx

A) Yes I love gardening...that's from my mum too!! (Sharon was trying to get hold of me earlier but I was out giving some Flower Power to my ailing box balls lol). I used to sing a lot too (looking for a group or choir to join currently) and my absolute passion is talking to my 3 cats Honey, Ellie & Benson (they're all on my website!!)

Q4) I would love to hold a very rare diamond xx

A) Wouldn’t we all Dawn!! Keep a lookout for some of the travelling jewellery exhibits - my friend Shaun Leane used to design for Alexander McQueen and he's just finished his own exhibit, but I’m sure will be feature in McQueen’s forthcoming Savage Beauty exhibit when it gets to the UK in early 2015 from the US

Q5) hi Alison, really enjoy watching you on qvc and hearing the knowledge you have of jewellery. Also was shocked when they said how old you are as I thought you were at least 10 years younger sorry no capitals as typing left handed...lol are your box balls turning yellow and brown?

A) Hi Sue - my lap is going hot with my mac on it ha ha. Thanks for the love - I'm usually nervous as hell when the programmes start (can't you hear my nervous laugh!) but then I get into it and sometimes find it hard to stop! Yep I hit 40 in June and believe me, I’m always going on about the makeup sinking into my crags!!! My balls are indeed turning brown/red and some are going yellow on the tips....we need Richard Jackson here I think!!

Q6) Hi Alison I was lucky enough to live in Sierra Leone for 3 1/2 years and visited some diamond mining which was fascinating, and was fortunate enough to see a blue diamond not long found. What is the largest diamond you've handled and your favourite cut? PS you managed to persuade to buy diamonique recently with your enthusiasm and recommendation

A) Wow Heidi Moss. Sounds fascinating and lucky you!! I'm lucky to have some great contacts in Hatton Garden and one guy literally has a walk in safe which has some really huge stones in it. I handled a necklace about 4 months ago which is a custom piece being made by another friend in London, his client had a budget of £400k!! Out of my price range ha ha

Q7) I love the way you talk about your own diamonique collection, it makes it more genuine, would love the more gemstones on qvc, I love it when you are on the show as you talk about the cuts and techie bits

A) Thanks Zoe Robins!! I genuinely am excited about Diamonique, even if it is not real diamonds. All the pieces in the range are so well made and I think anything makes more sparkle accessible is great!! I am a massive fan of all gemstones, not just diamonds - we get to talk a bit about the others when coloured Diamonique is in the line-up - the provenance and history of each type is fascinating! My favourite cut is the emerald cut - I’m lucky enough to have one in my engagement ring. I love pears too - oh it's too hard a choice

Q8) Hi Alison. I have only recently started to watch the Diamonique shows despite watching QVC for the last 17 years! I love all the rose gold & coloured Diamonique pieces. Your knowledge of jewellery is very impressive and certainly adds to my enjoyment of the shows.

A) Hi Elizabeth Lynne Elizabeth Lynn Hanna - that's so sweet, thanks. DQ has some amazing pieces and I love that the buyers are able to respond so quickly to the trends - much quicker and more accessible than the high street!

Q9) Hello Alison, your shows are so informative! It is interesting to hear the opinions of an expert on how Diamonique is so similar to the very high end pieces, which you are so familiar with. Lovely to have you here xx
A) Thanks Julie, very sweet of you to say so! I just love jewellery for what it is so it makes no difference to me whether 'real' or no real (!) and I was honestly shocked when I saw diamonique for the first time as it’s really very believable. Every piece gives you feel good factor without the horrid guilt that would come with splashing out on the real equivalent

Q10) what’s your biggest bargain you have bought on qvc? Love when you talk about your boyfriend ringing up to get you an item quick!

A) Bargain Zoe Robins, I love a bargain!! I just got my fave hand cream on last clicks - Strivectin....very satisfying. I also love Eyeko brow gel, recommended to me by Ali Alison Keenan and I also love Sarah Chapman overnight hand treatment though Ian (the BF gets freaked out by the gloves lol) It’s the gardening, I’ve got giant craggy hands so need all the help I can get!!

Q11) Have you ever lost any jewellery whilst gardening or are you a glove wearer?

A) I've not lost anything, I take it all off and wear gloves. My mum used to live in Grimsby and worked for Birds Eye and I'll never forget her telling me when I was little that she lost her original engagement ring on the fish finger convertor (tears in my eyes!!)

Q12)  Hi Alison, I absolutely love Diamonique and I also think you present it brilliantly. Would it be possible to have a 3 ct black diamonique solitaire surrounded by tiny white diamonique stones just below the girdle of the stone - like the one in Sex and the City please - I would so love one?

A) Yes Gill Sargisson, that's entirely feasible and it would be considerably cheaper than a 3ct white diamond.....but you'd have to track one down first and they're hard to find in bigger sizes. Accent stones of up to 3mm are easy to source and relatively cheap but for a biggie you need a specialist in one of the jewellery quarters...or an expert! Beware though, they are much more brittle than white diamonds hence why most designs available feature smaller stones x

Q13) I have about a dozen earrings I've lost. So just the one in the jewellery box. That's why I now go for the lever back. It's safer in my ears

A) Tiger, maybe break all the stones up in the lonely earrings and make something else out of them? I love a bit of up cycling it’s amazing to see a sketch become a CAD drawing (a computer generated image of your new design) through to the wax cast then the final metal cast ready for stone setting...each DQ piece goes through exactly the same process

  2. My sin is that I often use La Prairie skincare....so sometimes we live on cereal so I can have my treat!!!lol

Q6. We love your plus size – it helps us choose our own sizing. So good for your age – which is..?

  1. Oh no diets for me...I love being curvalicious & have never felt under pressure to lose weight or be a skinny minny!!!  I have embraced my size although I do try to eat healthily but not obsessively!!
  2. I could work a black bin back on the catwalk if needed.. Stacey Schieffelin  goodolddays!
  3. AGE...well I am celebrating the multiple anniversary of my 39th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Those who are curious...inbox me

Hallowe’en Freebie Update It looks like we’ll have 13 short stories – ranging from 1500 to 14000 words, especially for our anthology due out mid October. Over Hallowe’en itself the ebook will be a free promotion on Amazon. We’ve found out that KDP’s new pre-order service is only available if you launch a book at a minimum cost, but you can begin the freebie the day after it goes live, as long as it’s got a cost to actually launch with. Good to know. Means our deadline is now around 22nd September! I’m thrilled with the way it’s shaping up – some of the stories are romantic but spine tingling, others are spooky and supernatural but none are horror, so don’t worry! But there’s room for one final chapter – and I’d like it to be half a dozen true stories – from you guys!

AudioBook of the Week – I thought it was a good top pic to feature this week – as it’s so evocative of what you feel when you get a reaaaally good book which just draws you in. Isn’t it? I’m feeling that right now, as I’m continually ‘with’ the characters of the current audible audiobook ‘The Paying Guests’ – my mind keeps travelling back to the 1920’s – an era I’m incredibly interested in for researching my next big novel. However, Sarah Waters’ characters are vivid and vibrant and compelling – even though the theme came out of the blue for me, once I’d begun reading it. I chose it for the era and her attention to detail does not let me down. Best of all though, is Juliet Stephenson’s superb narration. It’s going to get a 9 out of ten for me… Go here for more.
