Debbie Flint

Ahhhh bless! That was me and my daughter Lauren when she was just 11, in 2000 on a hol with son Bradley in Ibiza. I'd not long split up from their dad, and this was our first holiday away just the three of us, and I was in the best shape I'd been for years! I was at that point eating a vegan diet (flawed I realise now, but more of that in the new book - see below) and I'd lost loads of weight - this was the same period when I had 'those abs' - you remember the ones? If you're a regular, they're the ones I featured in January's Back to You show, saying this year I'd like to get back to the me I was when I had those abs... Well, if you saw me bare them on the recent live show with Bruce, you'll know I'm about half way there. So the toning continues, and so does the writing...

We're now another week closer to the release of the updated version of TTFLS so below is an extract – free first chapter of the new book.

Also this week – it’s been great to hear about your Bodyblade stories – remember there’s a whole new group on Facebook now – do join. Info and link below.

As usual at the bottom you'll find the summaries of the Monday Hub chats with our special guests on our other main Facebook group ‘Back to You QVC.’ There wasn’t a live show this Monday (15th) as it was Beauty Day on QVC but we did have a great time chatting to you online! The show returns as usual on Monday coming (22nd) with a keep fit special with Forbes Riley plus the back inverter guy – curious? Better watch to find out more! 9pm.

Two weeks till big comp closes – have you entered by email yet?

Then the week after, it’s the final show! Don’t forget to enter my biggest competition ever! £350 of beauty products, plus a Bodyblade plus a signed copy of my Till the Fat Lady Slims paperback. All you have to do to answer is to visit my QVC competition blog here with all the info and ping your entry by email to the address mentioned. Winner announced on our final show on 29th September. Enter now – you never know your luck!

Meanwhile, do join us on air at 9pm each Monday, and if you are on Facebook, join the supporting group ‘Back to You QVC’ just beforehand 8-9pm each Monday for live online chats with various fab guests – see below for more info and how to join the Facebook group. There’s a new Bodyblade one too – again, info below!

Just watch the show live at 9pm on QVC Live on the last two Mondays (15th is beauty day so there was no Back to You show on QVC) 22nd, and 29th September. I look forward to your company!

The Freedom Eating plan For those who asked – see the tab above for more info about the system I’ve been using to lose weight alongside my Bodyblade / leg master/ dog walk/ yoga stretch routine. The system is Freedom Eating and I explain it in the semi autobiographical weight loss book, Till the Fat Lady Slims. NB – the eBook is now only 99p on Amazon! (updated version in eBook is out end September.)

Meanwhile here’s Chloe H’s before and after – since January – she’s lost three stone. They even came back off a Thai holiday with a little weight lost instead of gained. And like my sister Linda says, it’s not magic, but it feels like it, to be able to say ‘no’ to all the foods that have felt like treasure all your life. She’s 25 and hopefully Freedom Eating has truly helped her break free from food prison for the rest of her life.

And yes you've guessed it, there will be more like this in the new book!

it's out on 29th September in eBook and with a bit of luck a very special purchase will be possible in January...

Whatever way you participate in the current well being theme going on around us, I hope you enjoy it! Do give me some feedback – particularly on my QVC blog – go to QVC tab at the top for the current one and leave a comment if you feel a share coming on! lol.

Other news –

THE MONDAY ESSAY – AVOIDING EMOTIONAL EATING – plus EXTRACT FROM TILL THE FAT LADY SLIMS 2.0 - THE UPDATE -

It's been an interesting week with all the research I've been doing around Freedom Eating basics with others who use it a different way than I do. My sis Linda who still likes to observe some form of counting - but sticks to the basic principles, has helped me develop The When Diet. It's all about when it's time to eat and when is it time to stop. Eating when you can consume the correct choice for your body's signals and not settling for less - eating when you can get it right. And so on. And a massive part of that is of course NOT using food to stifle other needs. Emotional eating is a big reason why many of us got fat - and continue to stay fat - or get fatter. Realising that if you eat when you're not hungry you're only overfilling the fuel tank and that all that excess fuel will only spill out and get stored on our hips and thighs was one of my major turning points. And in the new book, I go into it in more detail. Meanwhile the original is full of such hints and tips - and so is the podcast I'm doing with my sis. Below is the first chapter of the new TTFLS book, followed by (when ready) the podcast - interesting reading and listening, especially if you're struggling with the idea of letting go completely. Let me know what you think...

Extract - upcoming eBook release, Till the Fat Lady Slims 2.0 – The When Diet

Autumn 2014

In a nutshell, this book is in three parts. My 2002 original version has been helping a lot of people overcome their lifelong battle with weight and start leading a normal life around food, whilst losing weight and becoming happier with themselves. Throughout this book you’ll see little testimonials from 2014 and on my website, www.debbieflint.com a whole page of extra info, before and after pics and some brilliant testmonials. It’s updated monthly so do check it out frequently. There you will also find out info about the facebook support groups you can join so you’re not alone stepping out of food prison.

But time has moved on, and in the 12 years since the first book was published, tons of new information has emerged so it’s only right that I now present a revised, updated version for you to enjoy.

Below is additional info of interest in 2014, that wasn’t around in 2002 when I wrote the original Till the Fat Lady Slims book. The system I learned, that helped me lose 35lb and mostly keep it off over the next five years is called Freedom Eating. In its entirety, you let go of deprivation and control and trust your body to choose the right thing in the right quantity at the right time. Everything changes when you let go of the reigns. That book is reproduced in abridged version in Part Three of this book.

BUT not everybody can take that plunge and let go straight away. My sister Linda uses an element of counting points, as well as the basics of Freedom Eating – you can find out more about how she does it in Part Two of this book. For beginners, scared to let go and ‘listen to your body,’ just read Section Two first – there’s a straight forward plan there if you prefer to be told what to do. It’s especially for people who need to still count stuff and require a more structured approach, whatever your diet plan. (And use Stage Two if you go off the rails, to stop you mucking up completely – no more ‘starting again tomorrow.’)

You will also find my recommendations in Part Two for a complete 360 degree well-being plan for those who would like to hear about my own lifestyle and how I’ve toned up and trimmed down and got healthier than I’ve been for years - find out what I do in Part Two.

And below, in Part One, I’ve separated out the basic principles of Freedom Eating and called it ‘The ‘When’ Diet – Freedom Eating Stage One.’ If you are a beginner, this is where you start. It transforms your focus from avoiding lots of foods to playing a game – a game where you accurately pick the right food and examine what happens in your body after. There’s no ‘wrong’ there’s only learning and getting it more right next time. At the very next meal time. Not ‘on Monday.’ And it’s handing back the keys to your prison – your food prison.

‘Cos it’s time to break free.

The When Diet.

I’m listing the basic principles of Freedom Eating here right up front, so that you can get a snapshot of what this book is all about. The full in depth explanation, along with what happened to me when I first discovered it all those years ago, is later in the book. But this is the nuts and bolts of what to do.

It’s not magic, it’s common sense – but for many of us, we stopped doing it a long time ago.

I’ve also included a section below about Sugar addiction - and further research to find out more - since you can’t trust a body that’s addicted. This is all relatively new science.

But if you’re like me, and hate dieting, and will want to do something just because you know you can’t! – then Freedom Eating principles – stage one and two – are a life-changer. But we’ll start with stage one.

NEXT WEEK - the basic principles outlined

PODCAST with Linda Bignell – to come

15TH SEPTEMBER MONDAY HUB – BACK TO YOU QVC FACEBOOK GROUP CHATS

Including Lee hohbein, Judith Williams (skincare expert) and… me! See below for a transcript of the three live Q&A’s from Monday’s webchat!

BACK TO YOU HUB – LEE HOHBEIN 15/9/14

Q1) Lee, of all items of technology, from phones, to pcs to tv's, what's the one you couldn't live without?
A) Julie Anderson - Wow, that’s a hard one to choose but I’d have to go for my smartphone as it’s always with me and it’s my mobile computer, e-mail machine, entertainment centre, music player, social media hub, satnav, etc. Oh, and it also allows me to make the odd call!

Q2) Hi Lee, I have a Blackberry (from QVC of course). It very often cuts out and goes to blank screen and I have to take battery out and re boot. Why does it do that? I am thinking of changing it for I phone, what do you think? I have an IPad (also QVC lol) Thanks.
A) Linda Farnsworth - That doesn’t sound good. If you’ve had it a while then it might simple be on it’s way out! Sometime a complete system clean and restore can fix things, but if you’re looking for a new phone then the iPhone is a really nice piece of technology (although there is so much choice out there!), The new iPhone 6 is out this week but I heard today that over 4m have ordered it so it may be delayed in getting to people! It’s well worth a trip to you local phone shop or Apple Store (if you have one near) to have a play and see if it’s for you. I own two iPhone 5S smartphones so I’m quite a fan

Q3) Hi Lee, I have an iPad 2 that I love, but should I be thinking about upgrading? Apart from it being heavier than the iPad Air, which makes it a bit painful to hold for long periods, it is working well! X
A) Cath Purple - The iPadAir is really fab and the fastest and lightest you’ll get from Apple at the moment. If you want something much lighter then maybe you could consider the iPad Mini? This link is worth a look

http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/reviews/apple/3475105/ipad-air-vs-ipad-2-comparison-review/

Q4) Ahhhh so much I want to ask! Will restrain myself! When did you first get the technology bug?
What would you like to present on Q if not technology? And lastly any 'beauty' tips for guys you wish to share?
It's great to follow your Q page for all your help and tips, banter and cat pics! Thanks for joining us on here too

A) Michael James Hamlyn - I’ve loved technology since I got my Commodore 64 aged 14! I worked in the tech support team of a 900 strong company when I was 18 for 5 year and have since run the supplies division of Epson printers, started up Corel in the UK, set-up and sold my own online company, co-owned several marketing agencies (and subsequently helped launch products for the likes of Microsoft, Intel, HP and Sony) and for the past 5 years have invested and consulted in several tech companies in the UK and US. Oh, and have also been luck enough to guest at QVC for the past 9 years! I’m pretty busy when not at the fab Q hence the slow reply to some questions pasted on Facebook

I’ve always loved cooking so anything in the kitchen would be my preference.

My beauty tip? – shave with hair conditioner! If you’re a bit beardy like me then it leaves it nice and soft and never given me any irritation (that aside I buy so much beauty stuff from QVC so there are loads of other options)

Q5) Hi Lee Qvc lovely of you to join us tonight, u always brighten up the TV when i see your handsome face i think u would be ideal for some of the beauty shows with Alison Young QVC maybe a treat for xmas my question is i am torn between the Ipad Ait & the new Samsung Glaxy S Tablets whats your thoughts on the two and is qvc going to be doing any Samsung tablets?
A) Thanks Chris Calvert - I have had that chat with Ali before so you never know

I make no secret of being an Apple fan but there are so many options out there to love! I like both of them and have had a hands-on with both but I'd probably nudge towards the iPad for ease of use (also syncs wonderfully with other Apple products if you have them). The build quality of Apple products are also exquisite but one does pay a premium for that!

No news on a Samsung tablet yet but I will ask and always post on my wall any products coming up

Q6)Lee ..ages ago i bought the surf easy but then bought an ipad...is it easy to use surfeasy on my ipad and do I have to buy more stuff?
A) Trixie Collin - there's a fab app for the iPad. Just go to the app store and search for Surfeasy. You also get a load of data free to get you going (there's also an Android app)

Q7)Lee, everytime i see you on tv i feel the need to buy something Just out of curiosity, if QVC asked you to do another show, which would you choose ? xx
A) Shaz Brown - Lol. They'll be pleased I'm doing my job correctly at QVC I'd love to do a cooking show. Have always loved being in the kitchen and would love to have a go. I'll have to sweet talk Simon

Q8) Lee, you seem to love to cook and I notice fond of a cocktail or two, although who isnt't! . What recipes, favourite tipple would you share...... I love an espresso martini
A) Karen Glaister - I love a salted caramel martini. Take a blob of caramel sauce, a pinch of Maldon salt, a slug of Grey Goose and top up with cloudy apple juice before shaking with ice then straining. Tasty but dangerous as it tastes of pudding! *hic*

Q9) hi lee my phone is up for renewing in two months i here u saying u don't have a contract phone how do u go about doing that
A)Claire Louise - You simply buy the phone outright then shop around for a Sim Only deal (there are many out there_. The initial outlay is expensive but it will almost certainly save you money in the long run (you can also port over your number). Buying the phone also means that it's unlocked so you can change provider of ever you want to

Q10)What's your favorite holiday destination notice you like them mine was a Caribbean cruise and a week in Barbados x
A)Renella Broxton - I am back in the US most months and love being in LA. I have a home there so it's a bit of a busmans holiday but I love that I can beach in the summer and ski in the winter. I'm a big fan of the Caribbean like you. I love St Lucia

Q11) Welcome Lee ! Can i just say one of the things that is lovely about you is how you explain things so carefully to the viewers. It can often feel like rocket science but you always break it down to make it easy for us thank you xx
A) Thanks Dawn Robinson - Tech is so much simpler now and it's so lovely to see that so many people can now own/use it. I truly love tech and love being at QVC so I feel very lucky to be able to do both of them

Q12) Hi Lee. Don't really have a question but just a Thankyou for giving everyone so much information and making me more tech savvy. Just out of interest what's your favourite app x
A) My pleasure Tracy Clark - Because I travel a lot I like my travel apps and Flight Track is one of my faves. Facebook and Twitter also get tapped very regularly!

Q13)Hi Lee My mum is looking for an easy to use lap top. Which would you recommend for the older generation who don't want to be left out but don't want to be bothering their children and grandchildren too often. Thanks.
A) Tune in this Sunday Carol Ann Johnson - I'm on with an Asus Windows tablet TSV that comes with a keyboard to turn it into a mini laptop. It's easy to use and can be used as a tablet by your Mum when she doesn't need the keyboard

Q14) Lee are there any acer tsv's coming up x
A) Claire Louise - Off the back of the success of the recent Acer TSV (which sold out just after the 11am show) I understand that they'll be bringing a crazy priced tablet as a TSV in the run-up to Christmas. I'll post more info as/when I get it

Q15) Hi Lee. I love it when you do the technology hours. The way you explain things makes it so easy. I've learnt a lot from you. When is the next affordable laptop or tablet. Looking g for one foe my dad to replace his old Galaxy. Ps he's 70 but loves his tablet.
A) Thanks Tiger Kadi - it's lovely to hear such positive feedback.

Tune in for this Sunday's TSV (21st September). I think it could be a good option for your dad

DEBBIE FLINT - BACK TO YOU LIVE HUB CHAT 15/09/14

Q1) Debbie......hi there. Can you tell me how much time per day you spend on the Body Blade? You are such an inspiration. I got mine today and love it already.

Linda Davenport-Thackray Got mine today & I'm finding it really easy to use I had to watch video to make sure I'm doing it right -

A. Sarah and anyone else asking about Bodyblade - glad u love it too. I always do the vertical ex no.6 hip n thigh, full minute, eh whilst boiling the kettle. I often also do the behind the back one - hence my triceps looking more toned now. I also often do the above the head one. Couple of times a week I do the super six.

Linda D - glad Ur doing it right. Whole vids on YouTube, on Bruce's Bodyblade.com, and on our Bodyblade qvc FBk gp - anyone having problems, all the info u need is on that group, go join. Christine S hope that helps! X

Q2)Linda Farnsworth Hi Debbie, as a TV presenter do you do your own makeup, and do you stick to one particular brand or chop and change with what's being aired? Thanks x

A) Own makeup usually, unless doing a whole makeup hour when the guests like to do us! I have to trial new stuff but ATM I use what's left of my sadly missed philosophy airbrushed flawless canvas foundation, plus mally pore less face defender, ybf eye shadow, and Laura Geller most else! X

Q3) Claire Louise hi Debbie can u share some of Ur recipes on here x looking good

A) My fave recipe book is Marlene Watson-Tara’s Macrobiotics for all seasons - on amazon. If we can all eat more veggies, that's the best way to stronger blood, better skin etc., so I have a stir fried veg most days. Spring Greens, slices of cauliflower and shiitake mushrooms, simmered in toasted sesame seed oil (not much), soy sauce and a miso soup, until soft. Add a big sprinkle of sesame seeds, or sometimes cashews if a brunch. Loooovely! My family love it, it's become my signature dish! Lol x

Q4) Hi Debbie x I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your lovely support groups, not only with beauty but with our health x you and Sharon work so hard to keep us feeling lovely inside and out xxx

A)Dawn - and thank u for being such a star in helping the I'm a QVC UK Queen group - join the queens, people, if you're a qvc addict! Fab troll free zone! X

Q5) Denise Hensby So true dawn, they do a great job, meet Debbie at the beauty bash such a lovely down to earth lady, my favourite presenter on qvc too, I hope you’ve got a new book coming out soon  x5)

 A. Denise! Thank u! I love meeting u guys at bashes too! Book wise - am just finishing Till the Fat Lady Slims updated version. It'll have a new 'basic principles section' u can use with any diet plan - common sense but oh don't we 'unlearn' it as we grow up! Eat like a slim person using freedom eating. Some fab testimonials with some of the January back to you peeps - if any of u are on here tonight, do a little post on here to tell people why you love Freedom Eating. If Sharon gets the chance am sure she will post a TTFLS amazon link, to current eBook just 99p (the original). So proud that one lady has dropped about four dress sizes, another r25 yr. old has lost 3 stone since January. And many more are finding they are 'freedom living' now instead of comfort eating and being in food prison, as I was. I haven't binged since 1998. Whoop! Fiction wise, next book will be PG versions of Hawaiian retreat, my part 3 of romance trilogy (Bk 1 got 96 five star reviews - yay! Hawaiian affair!), PG is fewer 'shades of Gray!' Lol! Then exciting Halloween freebie anthology - a short story collaboration with ten other authors, some award winning, all fabulous! Do go join my newsletter onwww.debbieflint.com now, to not miss when it becomes available, and for news about our Halloween Facebook party on 31st! Then I will be working on other stories which are listed on work in progress page on my website www.debbieflint.com! X

Q6) Chris Dig N Doug Hi Debbie. Just started reading TTFLS this afternoon. Didn't realise till then, I'm definitely in Food Prison arghhh x

A) Chris D - tell me about it! First time I read the book min e is based on, (7 secrets of slim people in 1998) is said, 'eat till you're satisfied? Wot, u mean, like, don't keep eating till u can't breathe any ore...!?' Lol! No more bingeing and starting again tomorrow either - yay! X

Q7)Heidi Moss Hi Debbie, what's your favourite way to relax when you finally get time off?

A) Heidi - have u joined TTFLS group yet hon.. I read u were liking the book?! Ok, I read, I watch shows like Mr Selfridge and documentaries on Stonehenge and horizon! I love walking the dogs. I go on writing retreats - am off on one in Nov for NaNoWriMo (national novel writing month where u write a new novel in a month - I aim to finish a novel I began as a script based on the early life of Marie stopes - it's a bit 'Downton abbey meets call the midwife'), and I visit spas like champneys! Lol x

Q8) Michael James Hamlyn Debbie!!! You know how much we all love you, I hope you realise how many people you inspire - I hope you feel proud! I really want to know how you inspire yourself... I often find myself 'stuck in a rut' and I just wonder how you keep it going, especially with your writing xx Michael, OMG, don't start Sharon off about my procrastination with my writing! Lol! I just have to take myself away to 'binge-write'!! I write better with a deadline, this year I set myself a harsh schedule to try to increase my number of titles as volume helps with amazon 30/60/90 day algorithms (don't ask!) so in march I did the short novella When Dream Return (spooky love story - v proud of that one!), at Easter I finished (finally!) Diary of A Wannabe Shopping Channel Presenter which some say is my best most funny work, but it's diary style like Bridget jones so that took some effort to finish it! And then the third book in trilogy, Hawaiian retreat which once I was into it, was soooo satisfying. Knowing. Ow that it was all worthwhile because Choc Lit publishers have signed me up, makes it all go to a different level. Now I feel like a 'proper writer' so the fear of rejection, I guess, causing the procrastination, has dissipated somewhat! In life, I just make something a 'must' - like leg master one minute whilst I brush my teeth, or my nightly yoga routine just before bed to stretch out otherwise I ache more in the morning, or like constantly focussing on the positive in my life, that lifts and inspires me. And I have to say, friends with their own health issues, who just keep going no matter what the pain, humble me and inspire me most. Sharon Harvey x

Q9)Michelle Roberts Hi Debbie, do you think you will have any more dogs?

A) Michelle R- hi hon! I'm allergic to cats (less so since I had a course of homeopathy admittedly) so have three Labradors (I lost holly the 15 yr. old in March). Daughters spaniel Baloo has stolen my heart during their lodging with me whilst they decorate their first house together, so maybe a little spaniel puppy, if I'm mad! Am enjoying my kids being grown now, (before the grandchildren start! Brad says he and Kari may start trying next year - eeek! Granny flint! Lol) and the freedom, so maybe I shouldn't! X

Q10) Hi Debbie could you share some of your skin care and hair care secrets as you are looking amazing x

A) Nicky Crane - tons of fresh veg, salad, high dose EPA fish oils (2000mg a day of actual EPA - google it or look at archives on my website Back To You Blogs, as many list online research about why it's so amazing for EVERYTHING,) , lots of fresh water (I use filtered ) and green drinks etc. But also I've been impressed with Imedeen supplements - since Jan my skin density went from 47 to 53, a ten per cent improvement!) x)

Q11)Chris Calvert Hi Debbie Flint great to have you join us tonight, I am a big fan of yours I was the first time around and so glad u came back to QVC and congrats on your recent anniversary  what do you find to be the most challenging part of working at QVC and also the most pleasurable

A Chrissssssy! Ta hon. didn't think I were that old! Lol! Nb I have to tell u, CJ on twitter, that u are infamous here at qvc amongst certain presenters who know they have to avoid your tweets due to your risqué pics! Lol! Seriously mate, so good to have you, and Michael, on the Facebook groups, like 'I’m a qvc uk queen' group, you're a fabulous contributor! X most challenging is new brands all the time. Most enjoyable is feedback from you guys that something we recommended changed your life. X

Q12)Chris Forrester Hi Debbie do you use Philip Kingsley elasticizer ordered it earlier just wondered if I will get good results

A) Chris F - without fail, Elastcizer is one of my desert island products and I notice when I don't use it. I use it as a pre conditioner every time I wash it, x

Q13) Sarah Moore What is you’re favourite of the QVC skincare ranges? Xx

A Sarah - Liz Earle cleanse and polish, Decleor aromescence excellence, Elemis oxygenating night cream, Sarah chapman SPF 15 gooooorgeous day cream, Gatineau eye, and neck. Others too, I alternate but they're my staples. PCMC is a mainstay if I'm away , my default day cream. X)

Q14)Tiger Kadi Hi Debbie Flint. What's the inspiration behind your trilogy. Thank you for back to you , you're such an inspiration.

A)Tiger - luv your name! I'm year of the tiger btw! Lol. Initial inspiration came at my very first writing course in Tuscany at the Watermill in Posara where Jessica hart a mills and boon author was tutor (check out her website, she does training), did a dialogue exercise, which formed then 'sadie meets mac the deckhand ' scene. Then I realised I could incorporate the penta water story I had lived thru during my years away from QVC working in the health industry. Also I had an investor called Simon, and then it became a matter of getting the blimmin thing finished! It took three years to do book one, and my beta readers 'Debbie's readers' group on Facebook (not currently taking new members but u can ask Sharon to go on waitlist), all wanted it finished so it finally inspired me to get it done last summer. Then the sales and reviews inspired me to do Hawaiian escape, the prequel, in which sadie's sister Helen came tumbling out. So that had to give rise to Helen's Story in book 3 Hawaiian Retreat. If anyone's loved it, pleeeeez do me a review on amazon and Goodreads! Reviews inspire me too - ones that say 'more soon please!' But critical ones actually led to me submitting to Choc Lit which ended in an amazing happy ending, so it's all good! X

Q15)Tracy Clark Hi Debbie. What's the one product from QVC you can't live without x

A) Tracy - oo good question. Probably lip lift. Nothing else is as good and I've used it daily since 1997 at Alison's suggestion for cracked corners of mouth (it was caused by toothpaste but nothing worked till I tried lip lift. The absolute best miracle treatment and definitely has kept my lips plump, not bad for a 52 yr old! Lol) x

Q16)Liz Cairns Debbie, you are a fantastic inspiration, in such a "real" way. You are encouraging me to become more healthy and it is starting to show. You are looking even more stunning than ever these days, with a happy, healthy glow. Fantastic !!! xxx

A)  thank u sweetie! So kind! Makeup and good lighting are a wonderful help! Lol yes, healthy eating has a lot to do with it for sure! And giving up sugar - I forgot to say that above. And no dairy cos my body hates it. And meditation... But don't forget I on,y have myself to worry about nowadays (no demanding man either- lol!) so it's easier. And yes before anyone asks, I would get married again if I found the right person, but I'm not feeling a gap right now, so I'm not too fussed about doing anything about it. However, one day I will give some attention to my How to Find a Husband Manual' with a system using the six degrees of separation. It's a fiction novel but the system is something I started trialling with some pals, so watch this space...) x

Q17)Lynne Sneddon Debbie Flint Apart from the bodyblade and Back to you shows which items do you like presenting the most ?

A) Lynne S - oooo variety I think. Hate doing lots of one thing. Cleaning products probably the thing I sell best cos my dad had a contract cleaning company, rest him. Erm, fab guests make a show most enjoyable tho - anything with Lee Hohbein my telly hubby! Lol, and of course loooooovely Antthony ! He's back on soon - Is it this weekend? And I'm going out to LA mid Nov to see him! X

Q18)Jill Dowding-Walker I would really enjoy your writing in audio download form! Any chance?

A Jill - definitely! Once the trilogy is out with Choc Lit, they do audio versions, so it will be at some point. However, I'm looking at a series of short story romances for valentines day in an anthology which qvc may buy in hardback (MAY buy! ) and those I can see myself narrating myself. Spring next year. X

)

Q19)Tracy Holvey Grenter Just want to say hi Debbie Flint, you do a fab job and I love it when you laugh on air it shows us all how much you enjoy what you do. X

A) Tracey - thanks hon! Can't help it sometimes! At least I've on,y ever lost it once. That was first time on qvc, when I said 'tartenkhuman' instead of Tutankhamen. And added ' the slapped of ancient Egypt. I was tired. What can I say. I was crying with laughter and they had to go to a break. Oh and of course the recent NoNo cream 'incident'! #itllBeAlrightOnTheNight ! Lol x

Q20)Joy Padley Debbie do you have sensitive skin like Lauren? Liz Earle & Elemis shower/bath are the best.

A)Joy - I do, but not to SLS like Lauren. I'm ok with it. Just now I'm having some stupid allergic reaction to something - itchy patches on my hands n inside elbows. Still trying to work out what it is, hope not dogs! Lol x kicked off by tomato plan foliage, grr. X

Q21)Chris Dig N Doug Body blade is 4ft? I'm 4ft11, this could be something to make the neighbours laugh

A) Chris - they won't be laughing when they see how toned you'll become., x ps u can do it sitting down so it's not an issue.,

Q22)Karen Glaister Hi Debbie. Not really a question, just an expression of thanks for this and the queen group. You encourage us to interact and with BTU look after ourselves and challenge us to be more healthy. Love it. X

 Super!

Q23)Carol Ann Johnson Hi Debbie, You always seem so energetic on screen but would say you're a lark or an owl? Body blading morning or night haha.

A)Carol Ann - I think most people who know me know the answer to that one., never been a morning person., I am a bat! Lol

Q24)Chris Dig N Doug Do you take any supplements or just stick to freedom eating?

A Chris - OMG don't get me started on supplements! High dose EPA fish oils (as above), plus imedeen, plus a coQ10, plus a multi vit plus a vitamin C, minimum x And of course very healthy eating. If u eat perfectly u shouldn't need it. I'm good but I'm not 100% , so it's an insurance policy. X)

Hallowe’en Freebie Update First this week, I’ve been in Devon working on the upcoming freebie Halloween anthology. Lots of magic and ghosties and angels and witches and supernatural goings on! In short story form. The cover reveal will be in two weeks’ time. As it's on Amazon's KDP platform, you can now set it to allow pre-orders, where it shows up on Amazon for people to order in advance. The pre-orders will hopefully be possible from early October for the release date of mid Oct and the freebie will be over Hallowe'en weekend.

The list of authors has reached 13! Spookeeeeee number! Lol! I’ve found that reading some of the excellent stories has really made me want to put pen to paper, metaphorically, so there will likely be another new short from me amongst the 13 when it’s released. Don’t forget we’ll be setting up a Facebook Group ready for the online ‘party’ with lots of freebies and giveaways on the big day - Hallowe'en itself – mwa-ha-ha-haaaa!

I’m now finding out whether KDP allow you to combine pre-orders AND a freebie launch – watch this space. Of course that’s one of the benefits of being only on Amazon. Which is why the following caught my eye…

To KDP or not to KDP… Joanna Penn’s latest newsletter (she’s a self-publishing guru) explores exclusivity on KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing, ie Amazon) and extols the virtues of using other platforms and not just Amazon – specifically if you want to help build your sales around the world. Amazon is only 40% of sales in Germany for instance, probably the world’s second largest ebook nation, so it’s worth looking at what the other platforms there are. She also gives good advice about what services can help cut down your effort in uploading etc, especially if you’re not very technical – go here to read her excellent blog – and peruse her site to locate some fabulous freebies. She’s also going to be doing a webinar on the brilliant ‘Scrivener’ software that’s used by top novelists to make the job easier. Watch out for it. Her blog has been voted one of the top 100 blogs for writers 2014.

Till the Fat Lady Slims. The update is cracking on apace and I’m thrilled to be reading some amazing testimonial comments. Like this one from Adele on facebook –

Not finished Debbie Flint s book yet but its sinking in. just had dinner didn't want all off it. hubby says don't you want that sausage. i said no I'm satisfied. so he ate it. pudding, very naughty i made choc cake ( practising for my macmillian coffee morning) left some, hubby said you have left some, i said dont need to finish it. guess what yes! he finished it. he looked at me with a funny look in his face, i said read the book its good. i feel do proud of myself. he said very commendable. wow im happy.

And this one from old hand Debbie Sinclair Bunn in response –

Well done Adele , its so liberating to not be on a diet , all I can say is one day at a time , listen to your body , knowing when you need water rather than food is an amazing breakthrough , it took me a few weeks , throwing out my scales was also a fantastic feeling ...... the hardest bit I think is being honest with yourself , I have been a yo-yo dieter for years been to club , had diet pills the lot but TTFLS has worked for me .... if you ever need a buddy please just give me a shout ... Good Luck xxx

The new updated version will be available in just over two weeks’ time.   Go here if you’d like to get the original whilst it’s 99p.

Book of the Week – I finished Lee Child’s latest Jack Reacher novel, ‘Personal’ on audiobook on the way down to Devon!  It was fabulous as usual – with excellent tension and use of narrative drive – set in Romford and London, Reacher in the digital age. Packed full of punchy facts too. And I just love that man. Except when he’s played by Tom Cruise. 9 out of ten to Lee Child – fab. I found the videos on youtube of my interview with him on QVC when he released the Jack Reacher prequel ‘The Affair’ in 2011, and put it on my author page on Goodreads – go here if you’d like to watch (quite poor quality recording) the interview with him.

So for this week I thought I’d give lovely author Sue Moorcroft’s new one, The Wedding Proposal a mention – ‘can a runaway bride stop running?’ Sue’s usual combination of down to earth characters and compelling situations is transplanted to sunny Malta – and a whole different favour to her latest romance. Give it a go – available on eBook or paperback. And if you’re a fan let me know what you think by leaving a comment below! Click here for more info.

10 September 2014

Abs...olutely Fabulous!

Well I didn’t know whether I should include it, but having asked around, here’s a close up look at the abs I flashed on air on Monday night’s (8th) Back to You show on QVC! (Link to full video below.) In January, I posted that what I’d personally like to get ‘back to’ was the shape I was in, in 2000 with daughter in Ibiza. I’m still a stone off it, weight wise, but am pretty pleased with the progress over the last eight months or so. Bruce’s Body Blade is an amazing device and at time of writing still on 4 EZ pay. One or two minutes a day has helped me get to the current shape. It’s a good feeling.

Better still is the amazing feedback I’ve been getting from people about their own toning and fitness and weight loss! Last week (apologies) the newsletter link apparently didn’t work for some of you, so here it is again – you can click it to go read about the ‘what have you been doing to look so slim’ blog, remember?  Just go here  including to see how to take part in the ‘slam it September challenge.’ I’ve been ok so far – ten days in! lol! Well, almost…

But it isn’t easy! If you know me, you’ll be aware I healthy-eat as much as poss, with a bent towards macrobiotics and miso soup, greens daily, avoiding (mostly) the foods that make my body feel sluggish or bloated (sugar – the worst, dairy – bloating and slight asthma, wheat product and simple carbs.) I do eat eggs sometimes and fish often. BUT having succumbed to some of the pie in the 7pm show on Monday and had some chicken recently I know my body prefers to stay on the straight and narrow. It’s HOW to do that - and keep doing it - that’s the subject of the section I’m currently writing for my new updated Till the Fat Lady Slims book, due out end September. It’s all about information. Google is a wonderful – and often scary – thing.

In the meantime, talking of scary, the work on our upcoming freebie Hallowe’en short story anthology continues - with 12 authors now taking part – including on the day itself, in the fun Facebook online ‘party’ we’re due to have on October 31st!  Lots to do in the meantime though – but you know me, I’ve always got something on the go!

In fact, find out what’s been happening at daughter’s house in the latest QVC blog here.

Take part in the September superdooper-best-ever-blog comp to win £430 prize here including a bodyblade! And a signed copy of my Till the Fat Lady Slims paperback.

And Monday’s Back to You show blog has just gone up – including the link to watch the whole show if you missed it – including the baring of the abs – here.

Have a fun week, and if you want, just press ‘reply’ – it goes to me, not a spambot! Lol.

Best wishes

We did it! A whole tutorial on the Back to You show on Monday night! Bruce Bodyblade was fantastic, wasn’t he? If you missed it, the whole show link is below. But here first of all is Bruce’s segment of the show.

Bruce was showing us how to do the super six – especially the more difficult but extremely effective number six.

Go here to see the whole bodyblade segment!

My abs I think are more thanks to Bodyblade than anything else I’ve been doing of late. I do a one minute leg master session whilst I brush my teeth, and at least a minute a day on the Bodyblade – usually the vertical hip and thigh sculptor (dreaded number 6!) exercise, plus one other. Then some days I do more. Plus I dog walk and I do a yoga stretch at night time.

Don’t forget if you enjoyed it, that the 4 EZ payments won’t be available for the rest of the year, but that if you’re going to get it later, if you get it now, you get all those extra months’ use out of it! It’s highly recommended and one of my top devices. Join the Bodyblade QVC facebook group too – details below.

Monday 8th September – whole Back to You QVC show

And as promised, here’s the whole show! Since not everyone prefers the Bodyblade, we also had a couple of other choices in the show, plus those fabulously comfortable insoles called ‘fluid insoles’ – they used to be called Happy Feet! Lol! Enjoy! No show next Monday (15th – Beauty day – but info below of our exciting live facebook chat guests 8-9pm!)

Big Comp

Don’t forget to answer the biggest competition ever! £350 of beauty products, plus a bodyblade plus a signed copy of my Till the Fat Lady Slims paperback. All you have to do to answer is to visit my QVC competition blog here with all the info and email the email address mentioned.

Just watch the show live at 9pm on QVC Live on the last two Mondays (15th is beauty day so no Back to You show on QVC) 22nd, and 29th September. I look forward to your company!

The Freedom Eating plan For those who asked – see the tab above for more info about the system that helps you eat like a slim person and for me, lose weight and feel a lot happier around food. It seems like only yesterday I first discovered this regime, unlearned all the bad rules I’d habituated and wrote about my take on it in the semi autobiographical weight loss book, Till the Fat Lady Slims. NB – the eBook is now only 99p on Amazon! And since the last series of Back to You in January, there have been so many lovely success stories I’m writing a new updated version (eBook of it is out in September) along with other links to interesting sites and articles which we talk about on the regularly on our Back to You well being Facebook group.

Whatever way you participate in the current well being theme going on around us, I hope you enjoy it! Do give me some feedback – particularly on my QVC blog – go here for the current one and leave a comment at the bottom!

Other news –

-          Fruit teas replacing the traditional builder’s brew. Well I’m one of those who loves to have an array of herbal teas around – green tea and jasmine or pineapple are my faves. Here’s some interesting info about how the new premium offerings are on the up,plus have a guess which popular brand of traditional tea has had an enormous explosion in sales? Read it here.

-          Paleo thinking taking the world by ‘storm’?? always interesting to hear both sides of the story. I think, though that the ‘give up eating rubbish’ alone would make a massive difference to most people’s health. As would ‘eat much more veg.’ However, simple carbs are also best avoided even though complex carbs have their place for many. Interesting video tho’ of one guy’s story. Watch it here.

Next week – there’s no B2U show at 9pm on 15th on QVC did I mention…? ;-) But we do have a brilliant Monday Hub, 8-9 on B2U QVC Facebook group – see below to join – both Lee Hohbein and Judith Williams plus yours truly will be in the hot seat! AND – an extract from the new updated version of Till the Fat Lady Slims – do come back next week!

THE MONDAY ESSAY – MEDITATION CALMS THE SPIRIT AND MAKES YOU LESS STRESSED

I realised the other day it’s been some time since I properly did my Transcendental Meditiation religiously twice a day for 20 mins a go. Ironically it’s like I don’t have enough time, but if I do proper TM regularly it seems to give me more hours in the day.

My own Back to You promise to myself this September is to get back to doing my meditation regularly enough that I feel fabulous – energised and level headed – clear headed even. I recall first having learned to do TM and saying that it felt like someone had cut the top off a motorbike helmet, my head felt so much freer and clearer thinking.

I did TM right the way through my marriage, having learned in 1991 just as Lauren was 2. I did it through the most of my early years at QVC and into the early days of running my own business in the early 2000’s. And then I hit my tough spot, my rough patch, my duff era, with money worries, two teenage kids and a bit of mild depression. TM got me through the worst of it, some of the unhappiest toughest times, until things sorted themselves out, I began working once more in TV and crucially I ditched the nightmare relationship with an awfully selfish boyfriend 11 years younger than me (never again! Lol.) A new house and a new start made it easier but with a new office-hours regime (working in finance for a few years) it had got me out of the habit of my wake-up TM session my mainstay to set myself up for the day.

Nowadays I use it to recharge the batteries – sometimes I have a heady, heavy feeling of a head full of non stop chatter and the meditation can slow it all down to a steady pace, and for a few precious minutes, banish it completely.

I learned mine via the Transcendental Meditation group, paying to learn a private mantra to use to take my brain deep into the alpha state, but there are loads of other methods and tons of videos on youtube – search for ‘guided meditation’ and sift your way past the half naked gurus with California accents till you find something that suits.

Then do it.

It’s hard to explain exactly how it works, but some useful sites can certainly tell you more. You can certainly trust the Huffington Post to sum it up – on this link they talk about it being the ‘new secret weapon of the ultra successful,’ ‘an ancient remedy for dealing with modern stress and anxiety,’ and ‘how meditation grows your brain’ in , yes you’ve guessed it, ’50 Shades of Grey Matter.’

8TH SEPTEMBER MONDAY HUB – BACK TO YOU QVC FACEBOOK GROUP CHATS

Included Alexis from L’Occitane and new QVC Lalique fragrance guest, the fabulous Peter Sherlock – see below for a transcript of their live chat!

BACK TO YOU HUB - ALEXIS L'OCCITANE  8/9/14

Q1) Jules Fay

Alexis - had hand scrub in the Covent garden store but alas forgot to ask what it was - would be grateful to know the name and if qvc do it - thanks x

A) Alexis Murdoch

Jules fay - Shea butter one minute scrub! X

Q2) Lisa French

Hello Alexis I imagine it must be a bit of a dream job being surrounded by so many products at work and at home. How do you organise all your products? I have a hand cream 'tree'! Bit of an addict. More at work and by my bed! Lisa

A)Alexis Murdoch

Hi Lisa French YES!!!! L'Occitane is my dream job!!!! Have to say it is always difficult to know what to use first ...... And of course have to try everything ..... And then have to use everything to the end!!! .... Hate waste!! My kids get to have Lovely L'Occi showers/baths everyday!!x

Q3) Jill Dowding-Walker

Hello Alexis! Long time user of L'Occitane here! Must have gained you several hundred customers over the years! My favourites include the Foot Cream #1, then any of the haute provence Lavender products, then Lemon Verbena Ice Gel, then the virtually solid Shea creams in tins! Would love supersize or triple pack of the Foot Cream. I am disabled and all my carers comment on how lovely it is to smell and use on me! I would love a 400ml pot to scoop out!

A) Hi Jill Dowding-Walker!!! The footcream is amazing!!! In fact only the other day I commented on how tired my feet were and how I needed the footcream to come to the rescue! No super sizes planned at the moment but u never know!!! And as u love lavender so much don't forget to tune in next week to the TSV on Monday as we have a complete lavender option if the TSV! Xx

Q4) Tiger Kadi

H Alexis. Welcome. How do you manage a busy career with your 3 beautiful babies.  What product(s) do you use to unwind after a busy TSV day.

A) Hi Tiger Kadi....... Today has been a tricky day ..... All three kids back at school but Millie only half day ..... So has been pretty full on!!! I am not much of an evening bath person ...... But if I were I'd be using the lavender foam bath to unwind!

My night time ritual however is immortelle cleanser, toner and then divine at night for my face, followed by Shea handcream on my hands before bed!

Q5) Hi Alexis,

Love Love Love L'Occitane especially the amazing almond oil (unfortunately so does my husband who keeps stealing my stock!). Are there any new vanilla products planned for the L'occitane range?

A) Hi Karen Travers ..... Vanilla!! YES!!! Everyone misses that fragrance so much!! .... Hopefully might have a vanilla collection from the. Grasse range for Christmas xx

Hello Alexis. I too love the almond oil and so does my daughter. We both tend to have dry skin having had eczema in the past. The almond oil is amazing on our skin. :)))))

Q6) Margaret Rodger

Please please Alexis can u persuade L’Occitane to stock fig again. It was my all time favourite although almond comes a close 2nd and cherry blossom too Xx

A) Hi Margaret Rodger ..... I know!!!  I miss fig too!!! ..... No sign of it coming back unfortunately x

Q7) Tiger Kadi

I would love to see a tsv with a male and female option. Can't be leaving the men out all the time. It would make Xmas pressie much easier. Let's. Say men, warm or floral collection.

A) Tiger Kadi ..... Next week’s TSV could be the answer to your request!? .... Verbena for men and Lavender for the girls! X

Q8) Hi Alexis! Love the citrus verbena as does my husband!! and almond shower oil… also Fleurs Cherie.....are there any plans for a bath range for Fleur Cherie? It is so gorgeous! Thanks! Paula x

A) Hi Paula grant ..... Unfortunately the fleur Cherie range has been discontinued :0( I personally am very sad about that as is one of my favourites!! We have some limited amazing value collections still available on qvc so check out the website! Xxx

Q9) Sorry if too late but will we be getting the Bonne Mare shower gels I saw in Germany

A) Hi Louisa Louisa Knight we have some new products coming out from the Bonne mere range in October this year so watch this space! X

Q10) Dawn Robinson

Hello Alexis and welcome, What are your top 3 L'Occitane products ? Xx

A) Hi dawn Dawn Robinson! Top 3 fav Locci products..... DIVINE, SHEA BUTTER BODY LOTION ...... SHEA HANDCREAM :0) x

Q11) Louisa Knight

Can you tell us what was the first product that you used from the range

A) Hi Louisa Louisa Knight - first product I ever tried from the Loccitane range back in 1997 was the honey Shea shower cream for hair and body! X

Q12) Hi Alexis, do you know if there will be a new liquid soap planned now sweet almond has gone? Although I love lavender and verbena, it would bi nice to have more to choose from. Thankyou. Xx

A) Hi Alison Alison Smith ...... I am begging France to create something exclusive for qvc in regards to a new liquid soap!! ..... So far no luck :0( but will keep u post

Q13) Hello Alexis, the queen of L'Occitane! I adore their iconic hand cream! Will there be more hair care products coming to QVC? Also was it L'Occitane who used to do an orange shaped candle around Christmas time??

A) Hi Claire Claire Spoors! Yes!!! We did do an orange shaped candle one Christmas!!! Gosh that was ages ago!!! So next Monday is Beauty day ..... And we have our TSV! We have 4 hours of shows 12am, 12pm 3pm and 7pm and currently have a couple of new hair care collections coming in...... Great one for volumizing! X

Q14) Hi Alexis any chance of letting us know what's in the Tsv

A)Hi Elizabeth Gray if you join my Loccitane Facebook page, Alexis Murdoch Loccitane on QVC you will see full details of next weeks TSV! .... Hope you will like it! Have to say I love it!! And lavender is for me!

Q15) Alexis, can I ask do you think they would ever do the hand cream and foot cream in a pump dispenser ? having very arthritic hands I do struggle with the tubes, I think both products are divine !!!

A) Hi Michelle Roberts very unlikely to hand the hand and foot cream in pumps ...... They are just to thick! .... But have you got one of our keys? .... They are great at helping to get the last smidgen of product out of the tubes! X

Q16) Hi Alexis, I adore l'occitane especially verbena. I am using immortelle cream that I got in a try me a little while ago. I think it's divine! Just wondering if there would likely be a tsv in the immortelle products at some stage?

A) Hi Nicki Bailey maybe next year we might do an immortelle TSV .... Wld be great wouldn't it! X

Q17) Annmarie Jackson

Hello Alexis, what products are best to use on my growing baby bump please? Thank you. Love L'occitane.

A) Alexis Murdoch

Hi Anne Marie Jackson .... Congratulations!

I would recommend the almond shower oil for daily use in the shower and the 100% pure Shea butter melted and massage onto your tummy daily! It's what I used with bump 2 and 3! X

Q18) Alexis are we getting any new fragrances for autumn/winter?

A) Hi Heidi moss ..... I can tell you that the amber perfume will be back on air next Monday ... Probably during the midnight show and likely to sell out as is last available stock ..... Jill Jill Dowding-Walker ..... You might like to get it now if it's your fav! Xx

BACK TO YOU HUB - PETER SHERLOCK 8/9/14

Q1) I am not familiar with Lalique perfume, know them more for lovely glass, do they do any animal testing? Thanks.

A) Peter Howard Sherlock

Linda, there is no animal testing on Lalique products. The perfume industry is brilliant these days and you don't need to fear

Q2) Will you be bringing any men's fragrances by Lalique to qvc

A) Peter Howard Sherlock

Julie absolutely!!!!!

Q3)

Hi Peter, I'm sorry I missed your first show, but seemingly went well for you. I'm sure I speak for many lovers of QVC in saying we would love to see Peter as a regular presenter! I luv Marc Jacobs daisy perfume, is there a Lalique perfume with the same notes? X

A) Jenny Kirby I'm delighted by how well things went - I'd need to do my research but I'd guess Satine may have the same shimmer

Q3) Thanks Peter, I will give it a try, QVC with their fabulous 30 day returns policy puts my mind at ease as I can always return if the fragrance doesn't suit! Hopefully will catch your next show, and hope your shop is successful you are such a lovely chap

A) Jenny Kirby what a fab policy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you so much for your kind wishes

Published in Back to You

First this week, …. I wanted to mention Joan Rivers – a lovely lady behind the scenes and a very kind person. I worked with her a lot on the Jewellery shows in the early days. I remember when I was going through some personal life troubles, she inspired me with a copy of her book telling about how she recovered from bankruptcy and the suicide of her husband. My problems didn’t seem so large after that. More about this, and a special video clip, on my main QVC blog out today (5th – see ‘QVC’ tab above.) Another legend lost to the world – I hope she’s making Robin Williams laugh. Bless.

Also this week, see below for an exciting new Children’s Book creator which my brother Glenn and I are very excited about! My first creative writing successes were children’s stories – I wrote one called ‘Clive the Camel’ for Buena Vista (part of Disney) ‘Rise and Shine’ morning show on ITV. And some others I never published – Glenn has two daughters aged 5 and 8 so it’ll be a fun collaboration!

Till the Fat Lady Slims Hits Top Ten in a Kindle Chart Very chuffed as ever to find out one of my eBooks has done well in one of the many (very many) niche Amazon charts – it got to number 7 in the health and fitness/diets chart. Another TiFFT* It was on the first day of my QVC well being show, Back to You, returning – which means lots of you hopefully will be reading it now, and adopting the amazing technique of Freedom eating to help control bad eating habits and begin to eat like a slim person does. That’s the plan anyway! I’m trying to get it right. It’s here if you’d like to get the original whilst it’s 99p.

Meanwhile I continue to update it for a release at the end of September – Till the Fat Lady Slims 2.0 – The When Diet – will include the new stuff about sugar addiction, and crucially, if you can’t trust your body entirely, how to incorporate the basic principles and still count stuff if you need more structure. Will keep you informed when it’s available! Meanwhile the other one is less than a pound, so do feel free to get it anyway!

Ps – Hawaiian Retreat, Does anyone use Goodreads religiously? It’s a brilliant website for readers to chart what they’ve read, are reading, want to read, recommend and write! Let me know with a comment below, or email me This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with why you love it! My latest steamy romance has just been added - it was first out in eBook at the end of June. It’s now out in paperback in case you missed me saying previously - on Amazon - and it has extra material! Do go here to buy it, on eBook or paperback, and don’t forget to kindly leave me your review, incl on Goodreads if you can.

Audio Book of the Week – Ok so I’ve just started Lee Child’s latest Jack Reacher novel, ‘Personal’! but it’s sounding great! I love audible! However, this week’s Audible book of the week is the one I’ve just finished – The Bone Season, by Samantha Shannon – it’s blooming great! If you loved Twilight and adore ‘otherworlds’ and alternative realities, get this book. It’s the first in a series. Dealing with a Britain where clairvoyants are the ‘unclean’ and get taken to a penal colony (I’ll say no more), her use of original names for things is excellent, and the tension is palpable as Paige the heroine forges her way through challenge after challenge. Once I’d got over the unusual narration (very laid back) I loved it. Looking forward to the next one in January! I’m not surprised to read that they’ve already sold the film rights – to none other than Andy Serkis and his Imaginarium Studios. How exciting! It’ll be a brilliant movie. And it was an excellent book. I gave it 9 out of ten – very high! More here.

First Show – New Series Kicks Off with a Bang!  And we’re off and running! What fun it was to present the fast-paced first show on QVC last night! Click the link here to see the whole Back to You QVC show from September 1st, including the Bodyblade Challenge! The idea is to do your own one minute of activity at home – even without the clever device, you can still take part! This week we had a fab call from Bodyblade user Jill Dowding Walker and very good she was too, whilst I exercised at full pelt for one minute!  Good job Dale was there too – it’s that final 15 seconds, when I really can’t talk, that I needed the assistance! Lol. And during the show we had lots of comments from people wondering about how to change their lives and asking about what I’ve been doing. Lots asking for a kick start, inspiration, and a programme. This is what I’ve been telling everyone – and it's the basis of what will appear in new updated TTFLS book end Sept.

To take part in the ‘Slam it September’ challenge:

1. Get current ebook, only 99p ATM on amazon 'Till the Fat Lady Slims.’ Read it, and start eating like slim people do. Or pick which bits work for you – you choose, it’s all about freedom eating.

2. Also watch 'sugar the bitter truth' or 'toxic sugar' on YouTube. Dr Robert Lustig's book alternatively, 'Fat chance: the bitter truth about sugar' - it's vital to get off sugar addiction for health and stickability plus to enable you to listen to your body more accurately.

3. Go read Marlene Watson Tara .com site, 'her post 'fat burning simplified' is brill ref the fat burning switch that can't work if u have too much insulin in the body. (Insulin from too much sugar)

4. Buy the Bodyblade if u haven't already (or if u haven't got a piece of ex equipment you like to use) to do HIIT training – even if it’s just one min a day! Everyone can spare one minute a day. Short bursts, they're fab. (Or leg master. Or both. Urban rebounder otherwise. Or Pilates machine if u can stretch and will do it, and have the space. Or whatever you’ve got that you’re not currently making use of! Smiling? Yes we’ve all done it – hence my one minute bodyblade challenge on the live show, getting people to at least do the one minute once a week… It’s a start. Or walking, (see the ‘other news’ below about walking versus running) or whatever works for you. But do something.

Up for it?! If it helps and u want to do it, pls let me know! Let's work thru this together, if you can, why not be a case story for me! Email me to let me know (info below.)

THE MONDAY ESSAY – VEGAN VERSUS PALEO?

Recently there was an article entitled ‘How to Rewire Your Brain to End Food Cravings – by Dr. Mark Hyman a prolific author and one of the top food and health gurus on helping you change your bad eating habits – read more here. He often appears on TV in the US and sells many programmes on weight loss etc. His premise is to eat a lot of protein at breakfast – but much of the rest of the info is good sound advice. Here Marlene Watson Tara takes up this point with her own inimitable take on the topic. Read both – then you decide.

D

From Marlene –

Our brains are not "hardwired" for dense protein, more like brainwashed into a desire for dense protein. Miso soup is a great protein source - it was used by samurai for breakfast.

We need fats, proteins and carbohydrates.... all can be achieved from eating a wholefoods plant based diet, of course he promotes eggs for breakfast because he sells books on paleo diets.....
Two million men in the U.S. are living with prostate cancer — but that’s better than dying from prostate cancer. Catch it when it’s localized and the five-year survival is practically guaranteed, but once it really starts spreading, chances drop rapidly.   Studies looked at more than a thousand men with early stage prostate cancer and followed them for a couple years to see if there was anything in their diet associated with a resurgence of the cancer, such as spreading to the bone.
Compared to men who hardly ate any eggs, others who ate a single egg a day or less had a significant 2-fold increased risk of prostate cancer progression.   These people ignore the 'scientific' truths...........

We don't fire up our energy with protein, we run on glucose derived from carbohydrate..... if you read or re-read my free e book on 'Freedom from Cravings'.... you will find the truth. Sorry but the mass confusion continues to grow... and the internet has fuelled this....

One our students who graduated yesterday on our coaching course was so squint that her right side of her body was pulled way out of alignment.  After two weeks of no eggs, dairy and meat, she straightened up, why? Because her spleen was enlarged with the diet she had been eating so her body was re aligning itself to give space to the organ.  She has spent fortunes on physio and all sorts of body treatments....nothing worked, of course not, because it's about changing your diet and removing the nutritional stress... the other students all had amazing experiences...... read my notes on The Staff of Life below. Research it – and make up your own minds.

Have a great day.
xxxxx

 The Staff of Life

One of the most controversial and curious subjects in modern nutrition is the place of animal protein in a healthy diet. The evidence has been building over the past twenty years that our reliance on meat and dairy foods is a mistake. Most epidemiological studies indicate that excessive consumption of meat and dairy is a primary factor in most degenerative disease. These studies, coupled with the fact that the economic and environmental damage of the modern meat and dairy industry far outweighs its social and nutritional value, do not seem to shake the public belief that animal fats and protein are essential for a healthy diet. That more and more people reject these foods on ethical grounds related to the animal abuse sets the stage for a food fight of epic proportions.

Here is what I know to be true.  Trust those who write articles on health for the bigger purpose than selling ‘books’.

Middle East    11,000 years           BARLEY                 TRIM AND STRONG

Americas           7,000 years            CORN                  SUPER FIT – WARRIORS

Q1) Hi Alison, hope you're well, how do you manage to keep your nails looking pristine, what’s your secret
A) As far as my nails are concerned Jan, I have them manicured once weekly - I'm pants at painting them myself, but always use OPI cuticle oil and freshen the colour with Leighton Denny's crystal finish top coat.

Q2) HI Alison, you always look so radiant and gorgeous!! What are your favourite skincare brands from Qvc?
A) Sharon I've been using Perricone for the last year or more and find it really suits my skin.  Cold plasma, blue plasma, and the Sub D for neck and jaw are great.  Decleor's Aromessence Solaire while I'm in the sun is great as is their night balm, and all exfoliating products are Elemis.. Loving their Tanning range too!

Q3) Hello Alison & welcome x Can i ask what hair products you use? You always look beautiful & your skin is always glowing! Please share your secrets x
A) Evening Dawn, I use either Philip Kingsley's volumising range or Percy and Reed, and also Elasticiser from PK range or Liz Earle's hair oil.  Would be lost without One More Day PK dry shampoo but equally good is Percy and Reed’s dry shampoo.  It helps me keep my hair up as it's not quite as thick as it was initially when it grew back.

Q4) Hi Alison....I know you love diamonique....what is your favourite piece that you have ? X
A) Hi there Samantha, that is a VERY difficult question! Diamonique is so easy to love, and I own many many different pieces of jewellery.  I think in honestly it has to be my single stud earrings from the epiphany range - they look really classic and classy and REAL :)

Q5) We don’t see so  much of  you on air these days! Will you be  doing a  few  more  show  before  Christmas
A) Hi there Amanda, I work a three day week, but my hours are quite spread - check out QVC's daily TV Guide and you'll see me there :D

Q6) What do you love to do in your spare time? x
A) Well Dawn this year I've really enjoyed planting out my pots in the garden, and partner Colin made me a vegetable trug which is now producing tomatoes and courgettes! I've fed everything with Richard Jackson's Flower Power which I think is marvellous, check out my blog on QVCUK to see pics.  I really enjoy cooking, altho’ don't do as much as I used to cos it's just Colin and me now.  Reading, walking, watching TV dramas and movies and best of all spending time with family and friends.

Q7) Alison - what are you favourite hobbies and pastimes away from Qvc? Xx
A) Sharon I do also enjoy an evening in with my man either listening to music, him playing his guitar if even a game of Scrabble with a glass of wine!

Q8) Hi Alison , I just wondered if you remember your first purchase from QVC. Before or after you became a presenter and why you bought it, I hope that you keep in good health for the future. xxx
A) Monica I do indeed! It was a pair of single stone Diamonique stud earrings in 9ct gold.  I sadly lost one of them a few months ago, but had until that point, had them for 14 years! X

Q9) I love watching you Ali, you are so good at explaining items you show. You look amazing, and always so cheerful xxx
A) Sandra, thanks so much for the compliment. There's always a lot to learn about each new product, and luckily my retention of information is still pretty good which helps.  Our guests are great too! I'm cheerful as I genuinely love my job, and feel very lucky to be able to make a living out if doing something I enjoy x

Q10) And now..... CONGRATULATIONS , again, on your Engagement! Still basking in your happy bubble hahaha how exciting Alison! You will make a gorgeous bride xx
A) It's funny you say that Sharon as Colin and I were at his nephew's wedding on Friday and I felt really excited at the thought of our own special day next year!

Q11) Alison....I watched you presenting the Vitamix last night and I must admit it was so comical......what with the ginger and the peanut butter LOL xxx
A) Samantha. I've haven't had such fun in an hour for ages. Gareth was absolutely charming as is Simon Brown and Gail managed to set fire to a spatula at the end of the hour so I was still tittering on my way home! Oh and the film I couldn't  remember the title of was Frankie and Johnny with Al Pacino and the girly who played Cat Woman in Batman! Hence the peanut butter reference Samantha! X

Q12) Hi Alison, welcome. I just want to say what an inspiration you are to women. You're always so cheerful. I know we all have bad days, what do you like to do to relax when the chips are down.
I love your jewellery shows too. You're such a natural presenter.
A) Tiger what a great name! Colin sometimes calls me that!

in answer to your question I Ray and keep busy when things are tough so I don't have to think too much about things .. Also try never to dwell on things at night - problems always seem insurmountable at night-time. Thanks for your kind words re the jewellery shows - some of my favourite hours to present. 3 hours from 9pm tomorrow with Charlie for Diamonique day x

Q13) Alison you are such a great icon for breast cancer awareness which QVC and the viewers are all heavily involved in. Can you tell us are you involved in this years Breast Cancer evening. You made me cry and no doubt many others when you made your truly inspirational speech. It would have helped many others. I see you suffer with lymphademia my niece does. Does Arnica help with that? xxx
A) Hello there Monica, and thank you for such a compliment.  Yes I am in fact hosting this years three hour Breast Cancer Care event with Craig, and along with a brand new piece of Jewellery that I've designed to complement the I Hope pendant, Charlie and I have also designed a beautiful pendant in memory of the four colleagues we lost in the last six months of 2013.  I will try the arnica gel for my arm, altho’ in truth very little seems to work. I'm used to it now :) x

Q14)I am always very envious of anyone who can retain information, you are totally amazing and relaxed on screen, wish my memory worked like that haha!!
A) Arline, the strange thing is I can member things associated with work,  but then can't even remember where I've parked my car! Old age, don't you love it! X

Q15) Hello Mum, what a lovely idea this is for you to speak to all your fab viewers... of course, any chance for a natter eh! Just to say thank you so much for my lovely Mally makeup - the mascara is amazing - and I have sent Melissa the face powder which she was thrilled with. Also, I do look forward to seeing your new jewellery design - the I Hope pendant was so good and so apt. Lots of love xxxx ps Looking forward to it! Any hints about the design, colour etc? Just to tempt us? I am sure it is beautiful and honours your sadly-missed colleagues perfectly. xxx
A) I think you'll love it Lucy - rose gold in colour with soft pink stones and the word Forever inscribed in to it... More than that I couldn't possibly give away as it's Charlie's design as well... I know you'll love it x ps I am certain you will like them / our jewellery designers have done a marvellous job,  thanks to all of you for tonight - it's been really enjoyable

BACK TO YOU HUB CHAT - SUSIE ADAMS TIBBER – Northern Nights - 01/09/14

Q1) Hi Susie I have loads of NN bedding and love it.  I've become a bedding snob now and I don't purchase from stores any more.  I'll need a bigger house soon to store it in. X
A) Hi Sue Stewart There is nothing wrong with being a snob about your home.  For me it is where my heart is, filled with photographs, mementos of my life, my children’s keepsakes, my favourite dress and the place where my family and friends come to visit.

Q2) Hello Susie and welcome x my favourite duvet cover is the Summer Garden Bouquet do you have a particular favourite? X
A) Hi Dawn Robinson  mmmm favourite.. I have three different sets that I interchange between.  The first choice would be a scroll Jacquard, second pure white with a satin band, {hotel collection}, and anything with a plaid or tartan in a dobby.

Q3) HI Susie, My Question is How do you always manage to look so bright and cheery especially on long, tiring, TSV days and does colour therapy help as I notice you always wear gorgeous bright clothes ;-) x
A) Hi Sharon Harvey - TSV days are a killer....I certainly believe in colour therapy - the link between the chakra system and the clothes we wear.  I know that when i wear bright colours it raises my energy levels.  I try not to buy or wear black {except trousers} as it is such a draining colour and as we girls mature it is much better to have bright accessories.

Q4) Would you ever consider doing a range of curtains and blinds? x
A) Hi Dawn Robinson - We have given it thought in the past - As there are so many different sized windows out there, it would have to be such a large range to cover this we felt it would be better to stick with what we know.

Q5) You do always look stunning on air... I really want to try Northern Nights, but my worry is our two boys (Gambit and Rogue; cats) sleep on our bed. I know some people are dead against this but I love their cuddles!! (Except at 5 in the morning!)
A) Hi Michael James Hamlyn *Blush*....thank you.  Hey, pets and beds - a perfect match.  Ok cats prefer flannel sheets coz they are so snuggly...Have you not heard about our 30 day guarantee.....

Q6) Hi Susie Adams Tibber welcome. I love northern nights and you've turned me into a bedding and pillow snob. My feather pillows needs to be replaced. I have a shoulder injury and a bad back. I like to have a good support pillow. What would you recommend I buy. I'm confused by so many to choose from. I have sets of sheets I bought over 6 years ago and still look fab and no missing buttons on the duvet covers.
I do agree with you I love all things bright and beautiful. And bed change day.
A) Hi Tiger Kadi.  Firstly i have suffered with a serious neck issue all my life so i can certainly empathise.  Our bodies change all the time and so does the way we rest and sleep.  I believe that good resting in bed is as beneficial as a full night’s sleep.  For you i would recommend a gussett pillow [so you do not have to use your arm for support]  if you prefer a firm pillow i would say feather only, or if you would like more adjustability i would go for a down around.  x

Q7) Hi Susie what do you do in your spare time? X
A) Sharon,  I do not have any spare time!!!  When i am not doing all things Northern Nights - I am Reiki Healer and am involved with all things spiritual and spooky, I practise Yoga four times a week, I cook virtually every day and when i am not i am reading cookery books or watching cooking programmes, i have a very close family and with five children and granchildren and parents to look after so a duvet day would be most welcoming x

Q8) Oh wow Susie! My mum was a member of a spiritualist church and it's always been something that called out to me but I've never been that involved with... Do you have a website about your spiritual and spooky side?
A) Michael James Hamlyn You will know when the time is right.  You can look on the www and find your nearest church and when they hold meetings, just walk in - i am sure you will be welcomed with open arms and see if it resonates with you.  'Fear is courage without wings'

BACK TO YOU HUB CHAT  - TOM OGDEN , ALPHA-H - 01/09/14

Q1) Does Alpha H tackle age spots and if so can it be used on back of hands?  This is a range I have not yet tried. Thanks.
A) Hello Linda! As a brand, Alpha-H does indeed tackle age spots. Must be all that pesky sunshine in Queensland, where all our products are made, which means that sun damage is never far from our minds when formulating products :) You might like to try our Age Delay Hand & Cuticle Care Cream… Used twice daily, it can help to improve the appearance of discolouration and age spots, thanks to a combination of gentle fruit acids and brightening botanicals. The other good news is that this same fruit acid helps to soften the cuticle too and the cream is loaded with Keratin protein which helps to strengthen the nails. We like to think of it as a manicure in a tube! QVC do a great duo of the hand cream (222027) but I notice it's out of stock at the moment, but I'm sure it'll be available again soon. Tx

Q2) Hi Tom, I am allergic to anything perfumed, do your products contain perfume, would love to try your products, thanks x
A) Hi Jan Lee! We use very little fragrance in our products. We do sometimes use very low levels of natural essential oils. Let me know a little bit more about your specific skin concerns and I shall endeavour to make some recommendations (sans perfume of course!) ;) Tx

Q3) Hello Tom  ,I am using liquid gold for age spots, is this the best choice from Alpha range.? x
A) Hi Collette! Liquid Gold is certainly my starting point when it comes to treating pigmentation, because it encourages the skin to renew itself more quickly, plus the Licorice Extract it contains is a great skin brightener. But pigmentation is absolutely the most difficult skin condition to treat and it can take time and requires an awful lot of persistence. It is also crucial that you use a daily moisturiser with a sun protection of at least SPF30 - otherwise UVA light will undo all the good work you're doing with your anti-pigmentation treatments :( If, after using Liquid Gold for a good couple of months, you still find there are darker patches, then I would also recommend incorporating Liquid Gold Radiance (210370) into your routine. This is a concentrated formula of skin brighteners and melanin-inhibitors. You use it on the alternate night to Liquid Gold and each morning under your daily SPF moisturiser. All you have to do is to dab a small amount on the darker patches. I really hope you get a good result from using the products. Unfortunately, it's impossible to "cure" the condition, but hopefully we can make a real difference. Tx

Q4) Hi Tom, I'm 27 & have only ever tried one Alpha H product (the Absolute Eye gel), at the recommendation of Alison Young. Are your other products for my age range? xxx
A) Hello Laura! Don't get me reminiscing about being 27 years old (those were the days!!) :) Our products will certainly treat your age category; I have customers aged 12 to 80! Let me know if you have any specific skin concerns, which I can help with, but I would certainly recommend using a daily SPF moisturiser (year round) such as our lovely lightweight Daily Essential Moisturiser SPF 50+. That's your "insurance policy" if you like, to keep your young skin looking as young and healthy for as long as possible. It's daily sun exposure that saps our reserves of Collagen so make sure you keep your skin protected :) Tx

Q5) Hi Tom I bought the recent TSV and wondered is it ok to use my usual cleanser followed by the liquid gold and how often should I be using it thanks v much x
A) Hello Jean! Thank you for buying our TSV :) I hope you're enjoying using the collection! You can certainly add the Liquid Gold to an existing cleansing routine! The only cleansers which we don't recommend using prior to LG are foaming cleansers, specifically those which contain sulphates. Those kind of cleansers tend to strip natural Lipid oils from the Epidermis, leaving it out of balance and uncomfortable. Non-detergent creamy cleansers are definitely where it's at for comfy skin ;) Tx

Q6) Hi Tom, I use the micro cleanse but have a lot of large open pores and crepey lines especially on my lower cheek area could you recommend anything else. Thank you xx
A) Hi Nicky. Hope you're enjoying using your Micro Cleanse (I can't live without it!) I'd also recommend using our Balancing & Pore Refining Mask (229630) or ( 204159) in conjunction with your Micro Cleanse. It's a mineral rich clay mask, which draws out impurities from deep within the pores. Use it once a week over the full face (leaving on for 10 mins) or more frequently to spot treat the open pores you mentioned. Another sneaky 'Tom tip' for you…apply the mask and leave it for ten minutes THEN apply your Micro Cleanse over the top! The Micro Cleanse reactivates the mask and draws the clay out of the pores, bringing more of the congestion out with it. After massaging for a minute, rinse off with lots of warm water. Oh and re the crepey lines you mentioned on the lower cheek, the mask also helps to subtly tighten the skin as it contains Vitamin A, a great anti-ageing ingredient. Dare I say, you might also want to try our lovely Liquid Gold on those areas as well, as it's a bit of an anti-ageing skin plumper ;) Tx

Q7) Hello Tom and welcome x love love love Alpha-H ! I want to treat my Sister to the Balancing & Pore Refining Mask, she does have very sensitive skin ! Will this be suitable for her xx
A) Hello Dawn! I'm delighted to hear that you're loving your Alpha-H products. I know it's corny, but it's always wonderful to hear how the range has made a difference to people's skin (it keeps me leaping out of bed every morning) ;) And how lovely of you to want to treat your sister! I'm sure the Balancing & Pore Refining Mask would be fine for her to use, but if she does have very sensitive skin then I would always recommend patch testing a new product - doesn't matter which brand it is nor how much it pertains to be "for sensitive skin". Just apply a small amount of the product to the side of the neck or the inner crease of the elbow and leave it on for a few minutes. If your skin feels itchy, hot or uncomfortable then rinse it off straight away with plenty of tepid water. Having said all that, the Balancing & Pore Refining Mask does contain natural clays and Lavender Oil so it can feel a little bit tingly, but the good news is it also contains Zinc which is very calming (that's why nappy rash creams often contain it ;) ) Anyway, hope your sister enjoys trying the mask :) Tx

Q8) Hi Tom, in answer to your question, I have pustule psoriasis, when I had the allergy tests done, I was allergic to fragrance, household cleaning items, plaster dust, brick dust etc., and I find it difficult finding products with little or no fragrance xx
A) Jan Lee, I also suffer from Psoriasis, but thankfully it is usually dormant (unless I'm really stressed out...then I flake out, quite literally!) It's a tricky one as so many beauty products can be stimulating (necessarily so, because we want them to crank our skin up!) With regard to Alpha-H, I would recommend you try our Essential Hydration Cream (203856) which is a very soothing and cooling cream (you can use it day or night). It does have a little bit of Ylang Ylang Oil in it, but I really don't think that would trouble you because it's a very balancing oil, but patch test it first just to make sure :) Hope that helps and thank you for your question! Tx

Q9) Hi Tom, *hangs head in shame* I haven't tried Alph H yet Eeek! What would you say would be the first thing I should try? I have pretty good skin ( for a 58 year old ) but would love plumper skin x
A) Liz! I'm appalled that you've shunned us thus far (it's only nearly our *tenth* anniversary on QVC!) Hehe - just kidding!! ;) I would recommend starting your Alpha-H journey with our wonderful Liquid Gold. You can add it to your existing routine three nights a week. Just cleanse as normal then wipe the Liquid Gold over the skin using a cotton pad. You'll feel a tingle (don't panic, that's normal!) then once the product has absorbed (almost instantly), go straight to bed, (do not pass go!) and no need to apply anything else on top. I bet once you've tried it, you'll wish you'd done it years ago! Tx

Q10) Amazing to have you Tom! I'm a massive beauty addict and love trying new things and chop and change quite regularly, but micro cleanse is my stable exfoliator that I won't deter from!
How else do you like to look after yourself? Any healthy eating tips for great skin?
A) Hey Michael! Love your profile pic :) It is really important to look after our skin "from the inside out" so a healthy, balanced diet plays a part (largely because the skin is the largest eliminatory organ in the body so it tends to reflect what the body is trying to get rid of!) I guess the key things are to keep as hydrated as possible so plenty of water is always a good thing and try to avoid too much alcohol and caffeine as they do the opposite and *dehydrate* the body. I really would also recommend people limit their intake of refined sugars as there is growing evidence to suggest that our bodies struggle to eliminate sugar (which is found "hidden" in so many foods these days) and that too much sugar even triggers the over-production of a stress hormone in the body (Cortisol) which can damage the Collagen network in the skin and therefore accelerate the ageing process! Scary (sweet) stuff!

Q11) Tom I also have white spots under the skin not sure if my skin is too oily can you recommend a mask to deal with trying to draw these out xxx
A) Hi Jean. You can definitely try the aforementioned Balancing & Pore Refining Mask (204159) on the white spots you mentioned, but you might also need to use Liquid Gold on them too. These white spots might be what we call closed comedones where the congestion in the pores hardens and forms a solid lump. The Glycolic Acid in the Liquid Gold will help to soften the build up and the mask will gradually help to draw out the "plug". Tx

Q12) Tom I'm slightly confused if the liquid gold is an exfoliator can you still use the micro cleanse? X
A) Hi Nicky! Yes indeedy! Use the Liquid Gold three nights a week and the Micro Cleanse a couple of mornings a week. The Liquid Gold is more anti-ageing, the Micro Cleanse more pore-refining :) Tx

Fabulous week, don’t you think? Considering the wonderful response we’ve had on tonight’s Monday Hub – the live chat room we run on the Back to You QVC facebook group every week 8-9pm, in the run up to the new series of Back to You starting on QVC – everyone’s gearing up for it!

One week to go! It begins on September 1st!

TTFLS offer – since we’re only a month or so away from the updated ‘Till the Fat Lady Slims 2.0 – The ‘When’ Diet,’ the original 2002 eBook is now only 99p on Amazon! Snap it up whilst you can, to help get eating habits under control with Freedom Eating – we discuss it a lot on Back to You and sister group Break the Habit! Paperback also avail on Amazon. Click here or see below. 22 x 5* reviews.

Deb’s Update I went to Champney’s this weekend for a couple of nights, to write, (am putting together an anthology of spooky short stories for Hallowe’en amongst other things!) and began to realise what a difference my August Challenge is making to my body! The Challenge for me was to do the Bodyblade more regularly, and the Leg Master once a day too, plus be more accurate with Freedom Eating. Well it feels like it’s all paying off. When I was in the lovely pool here, I’ve never known breast stroke to be so easy! My arms are getting so toned! And in the yoga class, the funny lady Pauline kept saying ‘good’ when she went by checking our poses – I think she was talking to me! Lol! I could hold them longer, more easily. Plus am getting some cool comments whilst on air too. So – one more week to go and it’s all on track. How have you been doing?

Why Eat Meat – a Mosley TV Special is the Monday Essay

So whilst here at Champneys, straight after the live Hub tonight with Abi, Mat, Catherine and lovely Laura Geller, I unwound with a glass of wine (more on that shortly) and the BBC2 show ‘Why Eat Meat.’ Well! How fab was that reporting? Thought he'd be too biased at the start, but the outcome at the end said it all. See Monday Essay below.

Anyway that glass of red – half of it and I was wheezing a little, had a runny nose, streaming eyes and didn’t feel great – all lethargic. God I’m a lightweight! But when you eat as healthily as I do (most of the time) it’s scary how bad for me some of this stuff can be! Perhaps it was only that brand of wine, but I rarely drink anyway and now I know why. Well, one of the reasons. I’ve only ever had a drink hangover twice in my whole life – seven years apart, both at the hands of the same ‘friend’ – and I ain’t ever doing it again! The second time my poor son who was supposed to come meet me for breakfast at the hotel in London, had to walk me slowly up and down the Southbank with a mint tea till I stopped feeling sick. Silly Debbie. Happily he thought it was hilarious since he knows I never do it! And I mean never…! Lol .

Anyway – find out what our B2U guests do and don’t do for well-being on their chats, summarised right at the bottom below – hear from photographer Mat Trim about his 5:2 diet weight loss and his time photographing Princess Di. From Abi Cleeve about the most wanted Ultrasun products and getting stuck in a lift at QVC! Fellow QVC Host Catherine Huntley about her recent regime that’s got her jumping for joy. And QVC Royalty Laura Geller herself with some surprising behind the screen info!

Next week – Adele from SBC, Susie Adams from Northern Nights and –  tbc –  fashion guest and Zumba specialist Carla Laszlo, join us on the Monday Hub, 8-9pm on 25th August.

Plus the Friday after – we may have an super-special Hub Extra – with Alison Young, courtesy of Will! I will keep you informed.

Just over TWO WEEKS TO GO TILL THE NEW SERIES OF BACK TO YOU ON QVC, Mondays, from 1st September, 9-10pm live.

Have a good week!

THE MONDAY ESSAY

Why Eat Meat – BBC2 show with Dr Micheal Mosley

Firstly, do watch it on catch up – it’ll be on BBC iPlayer or youtube I’m sure. A scary scary jolt for Michael Mosley, who began this show, thinking it wouldn’t make much difference to his health and, blasé, he challenged himself to consume lots more processed and red meat for 4 weeks whilst he went off and researched his latest show. Now we know him as the guy who revolutionised dieting and some people’s health with the fasting trend – his 5:2 diet has genuinely changed so many people’s lives. Then he brought us ‘Fast Exercise’ – a book and TV show – which show that short sharp bursts of exercise are one of the best ways to fitness (that’s why we all love the Bodyblade by the way, which is totally that – one minute per exercise, six exercises a day, or less but easy to do – see previous blogs – archive on left.)

But this seemed different. In this show, at the start, he got lean mince meat examined and compared with cheese, sausages and tofu, for protein content, fat, and one micronutrient – vitamin B12  and showed the meat comes out favourably, saying it’s better for protein and micronutrients (plural) – even though he’d only measured one, and hadn’t looked at any of the other advantages of tofu, for instance. Alarm bells began to sound in my head. But I shouldn’t have worried – by the end he was totally shocked at what the meat had done to his body.

The outcome at the end said it all. Like he said, lean red meat occasionally, is ok. But regular meat eating and lots of processed meat eating (ham, bacon, sausages,) is awful. Cuts life expectancy by one hour a DAY! Over 40 yrs.

His face was a picture – I thought he was gonna cry - higher blood pressure (118/69 up to 140/81), higher cholesterol (6.2 up to 6.8 in just 4 weeks) , higher visceral fat - 3kg more! If he hadn’t had so much veg n fibre along the way he’d have had even worse results

Great show. He deserves a medal that guy. Now 'don't eat processed meats' will be the message. Otherwise just two rashers of bacon a day lowers life expectancy of a 40 year old by 2 years. That’s like losing an hour a DAY of your life. For the sake of two rashers of salt-filled, sugar-filled, sulphite(? With a big X on it!) filled processed meat. The pigs will be happy even if the sausage suppliers won't! #quornSausiesAllTheWay!

As he said, occasional is fine. Regular excess is not. Same for red meat, having it occasionally and good cuts is better but definitely not all the time because of new evidence of what L-Carnitine from too much meat, does in the stomach. Eurgh.

Worth a watch.

Also whilst you’re at it, especially if you want to go the whole hog (ahem) and steer clear altogether whilst helping a sick body, look up ‘Forks over Knives’ on youtube about the turnaround in health of some people who stopped eating meat and helped solve some serious health issues. It won’t be for everybody but it’s definitely food for thought.

BBC iPlayer – Why Eat Meat? With Dr Micheal Mosley – google it, not up at time of writing.

Youtube – Forks over Knives – just watch the trailer, it’s two minutes long – click here.

Q5) Cath purple :Hi Laura, I have a query.  I have found that some of the B&B in

fair is coming up darker than it did before - there seem to be more dark swirls

of colour than fair and It doesn't suit me!  Any suggestions? Xx

A) Hi Cath Purple, We have not changed the formula for Balance-n-Brighten, these

are handmade and uniquely baked...so it could come up looking "different" one

time....My recommendation would be to go a shade lighter to porcelain. xoxo,

Q6) Joy Padley : Hi Laura, will we see Balance & Brighten with SPF as I cannot

get on with Spackle

A) Hi Joy Padley, Currently, we do not have plans to bring Balance-n-Brighten

SPF to QVC UK, however we have Spackle with SPF which is new and I will let you

A) Hi Fiona Mackinlay, Baked Elements Foundation is coming to the UK in 2015 -

Stay tuned :) xoxo, Laura

Q9) Chris Calvert : Hi Laura Geller i luv ur products the best is the primer

with the roller ball applicator, soothes and cools my skin while giving an even

coverage, would you ever consider this method for maybe the tinted spackle or

even a bb type cream?

A) Hi Chris Calvert, Very good question! We would certainly consider this

question and discuss it internally. I love it as well! xoxo, Laura

Q10) Joan Scott : Hello Laura, which spackle is your best seller? X

A) Hi Joan Scott, Our Spackle Under Make-Up Primers are all popular, but

Champagne seems to be a fave among Geller Girls everywhere! Which Spackle is

your favorite?! xoxo, Laura

there?

A) Hi Heidi Moss! Great question - I had only ever been to Italy one time

before. Italy is beautiful!!! Has anyone ever been?! xoxo, Laura

with QVC UK in October - Be sure to join me for lots of fun and fabulous make-up

:) xoxo, Laura

Q13) Laura - when are you going to come and meet your Geller Gals.  We've been

talking about arranging a big get together and you would definitely be the

cherry on top of the cake!

A) Hi Pam Merrifield, I would love for that to happen and we are working on

making this happen (sooner than later!). We've already started discussions on

this and I promise to keep you all posted with as much notice as possible :) I

love my UK gals! xoxo, Laura

In the meanwhile, you may be interested in our Creme Glaze Eyeshadow Palette on

QVCUK.com. Has anyone tried this?! xoxo, Laura

Q15) laura - here's something different - what's your claim to fame (apart from

the obvious). Mat Trim's just said his was being the first photographer to get a

pic of Prince Charles and Lady Diana (as was) together - when he was a

photographer in the army. What's yours!? x

A) Hi Debbie Flint, I LOVE this question! I've had the honor of working with

Audrey Hepburn, Ginger Rogers, Jimmy Stewart and Henry Fonda.... priceless

memories that I have in pictures to remember always. xoxo, Laura

A16) Laura, can I ask , , , are you any closer to getting new premises in the

US? Will you consider opening a store here in the UK? x

A) Hi Deb Carey, Great question - thanks for asking! We have not yet secured a

location here in the states...but it is on my radar and it is important, so we

will keep everyone posted. Opening a store in the UK is not in our immediate

plans - it's definitely something I've discussed with my team! We want to ensure

we secure a location here in NY before we do anything else! xoxo, Laura

UK GGs! I have an update for you.... you can expect Balance-n-Brighten in Deep

Baked Elements Foundation is coming to QVC UK in 2015. Stay tuned! xoxo, Laura

Abi Cleeve Ultrasun  - Back to You chat - 18/8/14

Q1) Nayna Patel asks :-) Hi Abi absolutely love the anti-pigmentation face

formula. Can we please have a night cream without the SPF but with any

pigmentation ingredient. Also a tinted anti pigmentation version and TSV with

large size. Thanks for bringing it to us xx

A) Thanks for your suggestions Nayna Patel - right then we are developing a

night time anti pigmentation and summer skin recovery mask. It's a STUNNING

product and as a sneaky preview might just be a Beauty pick on the month next

spring! Larger sizes in anti-pigmentation and tinted face are all in production

and we will keep those TSV supersizes coming. xxx

Q2) Sarah Jayne laird asks : Can we pleas have an anti acne / spotty skin

formula , I love your SPF face 50 but it's not the best for my spotty skin , if

never seen any acne SPF on the market

A) Sarah-jane Laird thank you - you really need the sports formula for acne prone

skin. There is a 20, 30 and 50 (duo best value) these are much better for acne

prone or oilier skin tones. Even prescribed at acne specialising clinics! xxx

Q3) Margaret Ridger - Fantastic Abi, looking forward to the supersizes and new

products. Best suncare ever, have recommended it to everyone lol x

A) Margaret Rodger - ooooh yes the newer face formulas are being produced in

supersizes as I type - watch this space. xxx

Q4) Jacqui Lake says : Something that you can use to prolong your tan, perhaps

with a bit of colour.  A refreshing/cooling spray/spritzer.  Shampoo &

Conditioner to compliment hair protector.  I love the pump on the supersize

sport, can we have a two-week holiday size - sports 20, 30, 50 and glimmer.  A

thicker consistency aftersun with a pump :) xx

A) Hey there Jacqui Lake (firstly thank you for being you and all the support of

Ultrasun) We are developing an intense aftersun which really supports the skin's

own natural repair system. A genuine break through which has been developed by

an amazing pioneer that we are lucky enough to work with. Should be out in May.

Now I have an issue with a gradual glow or tan in an SPF product as DHA (the

colour stimulant) actually harms the effectiveness of SPF and UVA protection.

However the pigment we use in the tinted is more like a make up so look out for

that in a body product...maybe with a hint of sparkle. Shampoo and conditioner -

I will ask for next month. Thank you xxxx

Q5) Sheila Nolan says : Can we please have roseaca face washes and creams please

x

A) Hi Sheila Nolan def use the face 30 or tinted face 30 (50+ in higher

temperatures) but let me ask the chemists on facial wash for you. xxxx

Q6) Alexandra Sayce : Hi abi. Finally I found a lotion that works on my girls.

Sports spray is fantastic. It would be great in a supersize with a refillable

handbag size. Please please please bring us more on tsv's we love you.

A) Sports in a supersize mmmm great idea especially with a travel mini! Thanks

Alexandra Sayce Don't panic the TSVs are being planned for next year but I will

look into supersize sports 30 and 50 for you. xxx

Q7) Welcome Abi  I still use SPF 50 on my Son who is 15 ! When is it safe to

drop this maybe to a 30 ? Xx

A) Hi Dawn Robinson - it depends a bit on skin tone and where he is. I would say

30 should be OK but why not try the sports sprays (30 and 50) great for

teenagers as so easy and still once a day. My 2 are on them now (both 12) unless

very hot when I insist on 50+ extreme. Good luck.xxx

Q8) Anne-Marie Mason says :Hi, I would love it if you could somehow put the anti

pigmentation formula into the sprays please?  And then bring the face anti

pigmentation out as a spray too?  Sorry Abi, you know I love all your stuff, ha

ha. x

A) Hi Anne-Marie Mason lovely to chat (as always) I am so sorry but the

anti-pigmentation ingredient is very dense and we can't get it into a spray! I

am really sorry - it's the same with all the sensitive formulas...good news is I

am going to trial final eye formula in September - use ultralip in the meantime

xxx

Q9) Lynne Sneddon asks :Hi Abi, I know Ultrasun is for everyone but to would be

good to have some bottles with designs on for kids for if they stay over at

friends or go away on trips with school etc. Especially if it was UV protection

for their hair as my daughters have dry scalp / ezcema on their heads so need

protection which doesn't involve wearing a hat as they can't swim in a sun hat

:) xx

A) Great idea Lynne Sneddon Might make some stickers that go over bottles for

kids and overnight trips! The UV hair and scalp protector would be great for

your girls - new stock arriving to QVC on 21st Aug (might take a few days to get

uploaded) It has SPF 30 on the scalp and protects the hair from UV, chlorine and

salt water. xxx

Q10) Lisa Lisa Belcher says : Please bring back the sports spray so handy! X

A) Lisa Belcher - Sports spray 30 and 50 are still ongoing. Think QVC have sold

out of the 30 but can get it on my website - I will ask buyers to bring back in

as prices better at QVC xxx

Q11) Andie Stephany says : Hi Abi. Would love some high factor wipes for kids as

sooooo much easier to apply to wriggly toddlers!

A) Hey Andie Stephany - I do understand how handy wipes would be but you only

get about 25% of the amount of product you need by using a wipe. I'm sorry they

are just not guaranteed enough for us to feel confident at Ultrasun xxx

Q12) Gemma Drake says : a magical formulation of your fabulous after sun with a

built in gradual glow tan... would save So much time for me

A) Hi Gemma Drake Now I have an issue with a gradual glow or tan in an SPF

product as DHA (the colour stimulant) actually harms the effectiveness of SPF

and UVA protection. However the pigment we use in the tinted is more like a make

up so look out for that in a body product...maybe with a hint of sparkle.

However you asked for an aftersun and that is a cracking idea. Leave it with me

xxx

Q13) Hi Abi so glad to hear there may be a sun cream with insect repellant in it

soon. Thank you. Xx

A) Its coming Maureen Green - just a bit more testing at the Tropical Institute

- wanna be sure it's perfect xxx

Q14) Hi Abi, unfortunately I've known too many people with skin cancer (from

working overseas) and now nag everyone about sun cream. It's great to be able to

recommend US. Could you do sachet samples so that we could given them to non sun

cream users? Ps - anti pigmentation formula is wonderful.

A) Heidi Moss - I know it's so tragic and so avoidable. Firstly QVC do a set

with a box of 16 sachets in or the grab n go collection which is mini

tubes...BUT so you all know anyone can have a free sample of our formulas sent

to them with free postage by dialing 01737245499. Just tell us what formula and

we will send to you or a friend...or even a list of friends!!! xxxx

Q15) Hi Abi Cleeve i luv ultrasun products luv the anti ageing face the most

will there ever be the option of having it in a spray formula still with the

anti ageing benefits?

A) Hi Chris Calvert - so sorry but ectoin is not sprayable. We have to suspend

it in a denser formulation hence it is a cream. However ectoin is now so

recognised as a top ingredient for anti ageing that the lovely Lulu has now put

it into her latest launch anti-ageing day cream. We have a high concentration so

use liberally!!!! xxxx

Q16) My family get really annoyed with me sometimes the way I keep going on

about Ultrasun LOL! But they all use it and love it too! I've got my stash and

top them up on a regular basis and have given samples to friends too! I did

mention on the Ultrasun website about tinted sunscreen for the whole body (I use

the face on my legs!) would be wonderful to have it in SPF30.

A) Chris Jopp - I will tell you a secret - back in June I was going on air and

my legs looked terrible white (well blue really) and I felt such an old lady -

so I cheated and put tinted face all over them. IT WAS FAB! doesn't come off

(leave for about 5 mins) and the best and I mean the best colour for us fairer

skins. Truely a revelation so yes a body product has to follow xxxx

Q17) Hello Abi, I love ultrasun....any chance of the sports gel in factor 30? X

A) Hi Joan Scott IT'S NEARLY READY!!! - should be launching in march xxxx

Q18) Abi, what about vitamin D? X

A) Yes Chris Jopp - you are totally right Vit D is slowed but still produced.

Maybe take a supplement as well? We have looked at fortifying ultrasun with Vit

D but tests inconclusive about whether your body absorbs it effectively and we

don't want to mislead people - we are still looking at a solution xxx

Q19) Hi Abi, I search everywhere for fragrance free sun lotions does yours have

fragrance in them xx

A) Hi Jan Lee Burgess - no we have no fragrances, emulsifiers or oils but deffo

go for the sensitive formulas (glimmer 20, family 30 or extreme 50+) The

aftersun is fragranced so avoid that xxx

Q 20) abi - here's something different - what's your claim to fame (apart from

the obvious). Mat Trim's just said his was being the first photographer to get a

pic of Prince Charles and Lady Diana (as was) together - when he was a

photographer in the army. What's yours!?

A) Did you know I got trapped in the lift at QVC for 2 hours before my first

TSV? Had to crawl out with the fire brigade (not all bad!) I had wrapped my coat

around my head in case the lift dropped (yes I know but i thought it would save

my life!!!) It was crafting guest Amy who spoke to me all that time to keep me

sane - thank you Amy. Xxxx
