So what is Freedom Eating and why has it helped so many people so much? As I approach the release of my new book, number 3.0 in the series, here's my number one student and her story is amazing - it's really made me proud. I'm only sharing the principles I learned years ago and have adapted with extra well-being info, but when you hear what Dawn had to say about how different her life is, you'll understand why I'm beaming with pride.

For those who don't know, in 1998 I was very overweight - and very unhappy. Bingeing was part of my secret relationship with food. Some foods were treasure, some were like homework and I found myself almost never being able to eat without feeling guilty. Plus I was eating for all sorts of reasons, as I had done all my life, instead of just for hunger.

Then I discovered the original Freedom Eating system which helped me out of Food Prison and I've been passing on the word ever since. 



What a lovely trip I had down to see my Freedom Eating superstar pal Dawn Allen in Southampton this week. It was a long awaited visit to congratulate her on her incredible weight loss and find out her story. How has my 'Till the Fat Lady Slims 2.0 - the When Diet' system and it's Supersix principles helped? Listen to her story and find out -

A couple of before and after pics really help to paint a picture of her super weight loss journey. at her heaviest, Dawn was size 30/32 and weighed more than the scales could measure - over 23 stone. She tried hard to lose but went up and down over time and across a decade it reduced by 5 stone but was tough.

This is Dawn at her heaviest - she almost never had photos taken. 


Then last January Dawn found my book - it was an exclusive offer in signed hardback via QVC UK (3000 sold out almost as soon as it was aired.) Till the Fat Lady Slims 2.0 - the 'When' Diet covers six basic principles which meant Dawn suddenly discovered a whole new way to be around food - 

1. Wait until you are hungry enough - we say six out of ten on the hunger scale. 

2. Choose what your body really really wants - not your brain. Drink water if you're not sure.

3. Eat mindfully - give the meal your FULL attention, especially when you're new to it.

4. Stop when you are satisfied NOT when you are full. Often about a palm sized amount, leading to a tell-tale deep breath which signifies satisfied.

5. Watch out for the bliss point - this is when your body has had exactly the right food, at the right time, in the right quantity and your body feels great.

6. Be an observer not a judge. Don't beat yourself up if you don't get it right, just learn and move on. Also, crucially, listen to your body AFTER you've eaten - learn the effect on your body - and make wiser choices next time.

Freedom means never having to 'start again tomorrow' = you just start again next mealtime, simply waiting till you are sufficiently hungry. These are simple straightforward principles and on their own may not be a surprise. 

But what some people have loved is that my own story is warts and all sharing, meaning that many people have told me they were reduced to tears when reading it - Dawn included. That wasn't my intention, it was just to tell my own tale in a starkly honest way that doesn't usually happen. But something clicked in Dawn's head and she found herself changing to a whole new way of being around food - really listening to her own body, and educating it and in the process, herself. Now a year later, she's managed to reach a comfortable level, size 12-14, and is a total of 11 and a half stone lighter - six and a half of which she puts down totally to Freedom Eating. I'm so so glad it's helped.
