book of the week - The Buttonmakers' Daughter by Merryn Allingham. And John Grisham's latest. It thrills me to report yet another successful book launch from one of my writing gang and Merryn Allingham has to be one of the most prolific I know. With 14 novels to her name since we first met at the Watermill, Posara in September 2009, she has made her name with period novels, and The Buttonmaker's Daughter is her latest. I have it on audiobook, I'm delighted to say, and it promises to be another well-researched belter from my lovely friend. May, 1914. Nestled in Sussex, the Summerhayes mansion seems the perfect country idyll. But with a long-running feud…
Book of the Week - Adrienne Vaughan's anthology - Fur Coat and No Knickers! ADRIENNE VAUGHAN - Fur Coat and No Knickers! Adrienne and I first met around 2010 at the Julie Cohen workshop near Oxford in an old Quaker venue - an ancient haunted 1200s building and former monastery - which had a ghost! Or so we told each other. Adrienne also contributed to my anthology 'Roses are Red' and that short story is included in Fur Coat and No Knickers - a collection of this award-winning author's poems and short stories. "A mixture of thrilling, gripping and heart-warming short stories for a cosy fireside read : - an impoverished heiress desperate to…
book of the week - Lucy Dillon's 'all i ever wanted' LUCY DILLON - ALL I EVER WANTED. Another cracker from Lucy, one of my favourite relationships/romantic fiction writers. I always enjoy the fact that Lucy grabs my attention straight away - within a few paragraphs - vital when I'm on a long drive and want a wonderful distraction from the miles on the road (not from my driving of course!) on audiobook. Anyway, this latest one does not disappoint. I love the tension she creates and the conflict that keeps us entranced. Highly recommended. "Caitlin's life is a mess. Her marriage to a man everyone else thinks is perfect has…
Till the Fat Lady Slims - out now! Deb's new book is out! (Jan 6th) = Till the Fat Lady Slims - Break free from Food Prison (2017) - well it's out! And as promised, here's the cover reveal! This latest version has several chapters that have never been in any other version, about my own story - much more in depth than ever before. Most people who love it say that it's like reading their own journey, so this may resonate even more given what I reveal inside it! It'll be available to order in bookshops and of course online. Here's the interview I did for fun…
Book of the week - a festive tale from Katie Fforde! ... and there are many to choose from! Katie is one of our most prolific novel writers where romance combines with relationship drama and usually incorporates several story strands in this collection of short stories brought together for the first time - think Love Actually. Kind of. In true Fforde style, A Christmas Feast features an unlikely Scottish hero and heroine coupling - at the start of their tale anyway, and goes on to show how conflict leads to closeness and eventually - we are never let down - the big hook up! I liked the chef storyline too. But…
